SEATTLE, Wash. – UMKC volleyball was unable to stay unbeaten in Western Athletic Conference play on Thursday night in Seattle, Washington. The Roos fell to the Seattle U Redhawks in three sets, 21-25, 22-25, 21-25.
UMKC (8-7, 1-1 WAC) opened the first set 3-3, but Seattle U (8-8, 1-2 WAC) went on a 7-1 run to open up a six point lead. Following a timeout from UMKC, the Roos mounted a 6-1 run to come within one at 11-10. The Redhawks opened the lead back up to six, but UMKC fought back once more to bring the score within two at 21-19, but Seattle U told hold of the set to go up 1-0 in the match.
The Roos jumped out to an 11-7 lead in set two, and made it to 20-17 with the lead, but the Redhawks went on a five-point run to take the late lead and never look back in the second set, winning 25-22.
UMKC led as late as 10-9 in the third set, but two big runs from Seattle U left the Roos trailing, looking for a comeback. UMKC hung tough, however, and score three-straight on match point to stave off the Redhawks momentarily, but ultimately fell 25-21.
Freshman Alicia Harrington (Cedar Falls, Iowa) recorded a team-best 11.0 points, racking up 10 kills and posting two block assists. Senior Madison Mosier (Lee's Summit, Mo.) recorded eight kills, while fellow senior Emma Hagedorn (Parkville, Mo.) notched seven kills, hitting at a .600 clip. Freshman Mykal Sadler (Des Moines, Iowa) tallied three total blocks (one solo, two assists), and senior Brianna Starr (Blue Springs, Mo.) notched 10 digs.
UMKC will look to bounce back from the loss on Saturday, Oct. 1, at Utah Valley in Orem, Utah. The match will start at 2 p.m. CT and will be streamed live via the WAC Digital Network at WACSports.com/Watch.
