
UMKC Travels West for Pair of WAC Matches

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Coming off a 3-0 victory in the Western Athletic Conference opening match for UMKC volleyball, the 'Roos are set to travel West to face Seattle U and Utah Valley in conference play.
UMKC opens the trip west on Thursday, Sept. 29, in Seattle, Washington, against the Redhawks. The match is scheduled for a 9 p.m. CT start. UMKC will then travel to Orem, Utah, to play Utah Valley on Saturday, Oct. 1, at 2 p.m. CT.

About the 'Roos
UMKC (8-6, 1-0 WAC) has four players that have 125+ kills this season. Freshman Alicia Harrington (Cedar Falls, Iowa) leads the 'Roos by a narrow margin with 136 kills, while Devan Porter (Bettendorf, Iowa) has tallied 135, Emma Hagedorn (Parkville, Mo.) has recorded 133, and Madison Mosier (Lee's Summit, Mo.) has notched 126. Hagedorn currently leads the team with a .423 hitting percentage, and also has a team-best 43 total blocks (35 block assists, 8 solo blocks). Senior Kaylyn Brandt (Sumner, Iowa) leads UMKC with 511 assists, and Brianna Starr (Blue Springs, Mo.) has recorded a team-high 170 digs.
Hagedorn was named WAC Player of the Week for the first time in her career for the week of Aug. 29-Sept. 4. Brandt earned UMKC's second WAC Player of the Week award for the week of Sept. 5-11, her first time earning the award.
About the Redhawks
Seattle U (7-8, 0-2 WAC) is led on the attacking front by Matea Mamic, who has a team-high 215 kills. Shae Harris is the primary distributor for the Redhawks with 415 assists this season. With 42 and 41 total blocks respectively, Katarina Glavinic and Kory White are responsible for a major part of Seattle U's defensive efforts at the net. Iris Ivanis leads Seattle U with 248 digs, recording 4.43 per set.
About the Wolverines
Utah Valley's offense is distributed primarily through three players, Kiahna Vernon, Madison Dennison, and Lexi Thompson. Vernon leads the team with 130 kills, while Dennison has 127, and Thompson has 124. Dennison leads the blocking efforts for UVU, recording 87 total blocks (2 solo blocks, 85 block assists). With 464 assists, Sierra Starley leads the Wolverines in the category.

UMKC returns to Kansas City after six-straight road matches to face CSU Bakersfield and Grand Canyon. The 'Roos and Runners will square off on Thursday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. at Swinney Recreation Center. Grand Canyon will visit the City of Fountains on Saturday, Oct. 8 for a 1 p.m. tilt against UMKC.
