KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Behind the third-straight double-double from senior setter Kaylyn Brandt (Sumner, Iowa) and 12 kills on a .550 hitting efficiency from freshman Alicia Harrington (Cedar Falls, Iowa), UMKC volleyball beat Bradley in three sets to win the Kagaroo Klassic. Brandt was named the tournament MVP, while Harrington and senior Madison Mosier (Lee's Summit, Mo.) were also named to the All-Tournament team.
UMKC (7-3) took set one 26-24, behind six kills in the set from Mosier. A 4-0 start to the match was quickly negated by Bradley, as they stormed back to tie the game at five and eventually taking a lead, all the way up to match point at 24-23. The 'Roos weathered the storm, however, and three-straight kills from Mosier finished things off in set one to leave the Braves heartbroken.
Harrington stole the show in set two, powering home six kills to bring her total to eight on the day. UMKC finished the set on an 8-2 run to win 25-17, and doubled its effort in the third set, also winning by a 25-17 count.
Mosier finished the match with 11 kills behind Harrington's team-high 12, and Brandt finished with 39 assists and 16 digs, tacking on three kills and three total blocks for good measure. Freshman Mykal Sadler (Des Moines, Iowa) led the team with six total blocks, all assisted efforts.
UMKC will travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas, next weekend to participate in the Arkansas Invitational hosted by the Razorbacks. The 'Roos will face Kansas State, Southern Miss and the tournament hosts, Sept. 16 and 17.
