Charleston, Ill. – UMKC scored three second half goals, rallying from a 1-0 deficit to hammer Eastern Illinois 4-1 on Friday afternoon in Charleston.
The Panthers (0-5) got on the board midway through the first half when Chris Reed got a head on a Nina Tzianos save and snuck the put-back by the Kangaroos' keeper for the game's first goal at 24'.
Sarah Todd responded with her first goal since Oct. 12, 2012, drilling the equalizer off of a free-kick from 22 yards out just five minutes after the 'Roos (2-2-1) inherited the deficit. The 1-0 tally would stand into intermission, and, for EIU, that's where the good news came to a resounding halt.
Ellie Chadick and Alyssa Elver greeted the hosts with the go-ahead goal just under seven minutes into the second half, Chadick crossing the assist to Elver who put her only attempt of the afternoon between the sticks for her first goal of the season.
Chadick was back at it only minutes later, fielding a cross from Olivia Hodison on the run-out and tucking home the one-timer to provide UMKC with a cushion. The assist was Hodison's first. The goal, Chadick's second.
Freshman Kara Priest couldn't possibly remain scoreless. The team's leading scorer finally got into the act with the third of three shots on goal, finishing off of a pair of assists from Elver and fellow-freshman Nikki Lynch to put a bow on the program's most resounding victory since a 3-0 blowout of Utah Valley pushed UMKC into the postseason last fall.
Goalkeeper Nina Tzianos, for her part, was up to the challenge once more, making four saves – three off of Meagan Radloff shots, alone – to silence the Panthers following the opening goal of the match.
