(Orem, Utah) – A program-best eight-game unbeaten streak came to an end Sunday afternoon, as UMKC fell at Utah Valley, 2-0.
The Wolverines (12-5-2, 7-2-0) jumped on the board early, as Libby Weber found the end of a McKell Salmon corner kick, putting it between the sticks off of her chest to provide the hosts with a one-goal advantage.
UVU would create just one additional shot opportunity in the first half, but made it two-for-two when Tori Smith scored her second goal of the season just over 30 minutes later to give the Wolverines a 2-0 lead heading into the break.
Despite outshooting Utah Valley 4-2 in the first half, the 'Roos (10-4-3, 6-1-1) were unable to duplicate that advantage in the second half. Subsequently, UVU goalkeeper Jessica Duffin was able to record the shutout with recording a save.
UMKC was blanked for the first time since Sept. 14 at Kansas. Seven total shots, as well as three shots in one half, were both also low marks since the loss to the Jayhawks.
The 'Roos will look to bounce back next weekend with a home-and-home series against Chicago State. The Cougars have yet to win a WAC game this season. Friday's kick-off is slated for 1 p.m. (CST).
