(Chicago, Ill.) - The UMKC women's soccer squad fought cold, wet and snowy conditions on Friday afternoon at Chicago State, but it didn't stop them from setting a school record for goals in an 8-0 victory.
UMKC (11-4-3, 7-1-1 WAC) took a 1-0 lead into the half, but exploded in the second period with seven goals, including five in a span of eight minutes. The 'Roos out-shot the Cougars (1-14-1, 0-6-1 WAC) by a 28-4 margin in the match.
The opening goal came from Ellie Chadick in the 29th minute off an assist from Nikki Lynch. That would be all the 'Roos needed, going crazy in the final stanza. Lynch tallied a goal in the 63rd minute, followed by tallies from Lilly Cobb, Kara Priest, Kaely Tott, and Whitney Lucas over the next eight minutes.
Lucas became the first player to tally her second goal in the game when she put one in the net at the 87th minute, before Allison Schau got in on the action with her first goal of the year with 31 seconds left.
UMKC now has 41 goals on the season, also setting the program record in that category. The 'Roos will host the Cougars again on Senior Day Sunday at 1 p.m. with a chance to win at least a share of the WAC regular season championship with a victory.
Seattle and Utah Valley play in Orem on Saturday, and UMKC will learn if it can clinch the out-right title with a Seattle tie or loss.
