'Roos Come Up Short at Seattle

The Kansas City women's soccer team was under fire early and often and never recovered, falling to Seattle U 3-0 at Championship Field on Friday.
The Redhawks (5-2-2, 2-0-0) controlled the game from the literal outset, as Stephanie Verdoia accepted a cross from Natasha Howe and delivered it past UMKC goalkeeper Nina Tzianos to put Seattle on the board just 18 seconds into the match.
After just missing a goal in the 24th minute, Redhawk forward Taylor Ritzman capitalized the second time around, scoring off of a Verdoia assist to set the halftime tally at 2-0.
In the 53rd minute, Howe added a goal of her own, this time assisted by Kat Prati and Verdoia, to increase the Seattle lead to three goals -- a margin that would prove decisive.
The 'Roos (4-6-1, 1-2-0) were outshot 20-3 and created just one corner kick opportunity in what can best be described as a learning experience for the group. With the loss, UMKC drops to 1-4-1 on the road this season, a trend that it hopes to buck on Sunday at Idaho.
