(Orem, Utah) – The Kansas City women's soccer team dropped a WAC conference road tilt at Utah Valley 2-0 on Friday as the Wolverines outshot the 'Roos 18-11, applying near constant pressure to UMKC goalkeeper Nina Tzianos.
Tzianos made eight saves – her third highest total of the season – but it wasn't enough, as UVU dominated possession and won the first meeting in the schools' history going away.
Utah Valley got on the board in the 60th minute when Natalie Baker capitalized on a Lauren Sack header, beating Tzianos and giving the Wolverines a 1-0 advantage.
Little more than three minutes later, Haley Curtis and Kim Stratford worked a little give-and-go, with Stratford setting up Curtis, and Curtis sneaking a shot past Tzianos to increase the advantage to 2-0.
The 'Roos lost the corner kick battle 6-5 – dropping to 0-6-1 when they fail to earn more corner kicks than the opponent. Additionally, UVU held advantages in possession and shots on goal.
Kansas City travels to Bakersfield on Sunday for an afternoon league match with the Roadrunners. Kick-off is slated for 2 p.m. (PST).
