
Lucas Tops 30 Kills For Second Straight Match As 'Roos Top Jackrabbits

The Sublette, Kan., native added 15 digs for her eighth double-double of the season, while freshman Emma Hagedorn recorded 13 kills on .667 hitting, adding a team-high six blocks in the win.
South Dakota State gained control of the match early after taking the first set 25-22, despite trailing late, 23-20. The Kangaroos quickly evened the match with a 27-25 second set win after scoring the final three points of the set on kills from freshman Skyler Muff and Lucas and an error by the Jackrabbits.
Coming out of the intermission, the 'Roos claimed their first lead of the match with a 25-21 third set win. Kansas City scored four of the first five points of the set to build a three point lead early, but SDSU battled back to tie the set at seven. The Kangaroos would answer with five straight, including kills by Lucas and Hagedorn and an ace from freshman Nicole Wemhoff, before building its lead to a set-high seven at 17-10. South Dakota State would close the margin to two at 22-20, but a kill by freshman Sydney Crimmins and a pair of errors by the Jacks ended the set.
In the clinching set, the Kangaroos fell behind 10-4 early, before SDSU built its lead to seven at 15-8 midway through the set. At that point, the 'Roos would begin their comeback, reeling off the next six points, including two Hagedorn kills, to close to within one at 15-14, before tying the set at 19 on a Jackrabbit error. South Dakota State would score the set's next two points, but four straight from UMKC, highlighted by a Morgan Voorhes ace and a Lucas kill, put the 'Roos in front for the first time at 23-21. SDSU would even the match with two straight points, but a kill by senior setter Ella Meier and Lucas' 30th kill gave the 'Roos their second straight win in Brookings.
In the back row, freshman Taryn Miller recorded a match-high 22 digs, while fellow freshman Jessica Hendin added nine kills and 10 digs.
Individually, Wemhoff finished with 37 assists and seven digs, while Meier notched 21 assists and three blocks. At the net, Crimmins and Muff each registered four of the 'Roos 11 blocks.
The Blue & Gold will back in action again tomorrow night when they conclude their swing through the Dakotas in Fargo, N.D., against North Dakota State at 7 p.m.
