
Kansas City Continues League Play with a Matchup Against Omaha Over Homecoming Weekend

(Kansas City, Mo.) - The UMKC women's soccer team (4-6-3, 1-1 SL) will kick-off a season long three-game homestand with a matchup against the Omaha Mavericks (1-11, 1-1 SL) on Sunday at 1 p.m. in its lone contest of the week.

Friday night is the Classic 'Roo Reception from 5:30-7:00 pm at Miller Nichols Library. Athletics Director Tim Hall, women's basketball player Kim Nezianya, and Kasey the Kangaroo will all take part in a fashion show for the Alumni Association event.
On Saturday (11 a.m. - 1 p.m.), a free soccer clinic at Durwood Stadium for youth grades 1-8. Pre-register online here or at 10:30 am in person. Each registrant gets a free ticket to the 'Roo men's game at 7 p.m., as well as a ticket to the UMKC women's soccer game against Omaha at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
The Opponent
» Omaha Mavericks (1-11, 1-1 Summit League as of Oct. 5)
After dropping its first 10 games, Omaha defeated Fort Wayne (4-6, 0-1 SL) at home in its first Summit League contest on Sept. 28, 1-0. Two days later at home, the Mavs fell to Oakland (4-3-3, 1-0 SL), 1-0.
Offensively, forward Danielle Archuleta leads her squad in goals with four, while midfielder Anna Sibson has tallied a team-high three assists.
In the net, freshman keeper Meaghan Clark has logged over 900 minutes of action while accumulating 65 saves, one shutout, and allowing 28 goals for a 1-10 record.
» The Head Coach: In his 14th season at the helm, Don Kolsterman holds a 198-59-12 overall record as the only coach in the program's history. Throughout his tenure, Kolsterman's accolades include two NSCAA National Coach of the Year honors (2002, 2005) and three NSCAA Central Region Coach of the Year awards (2002, 2004, 2005). In 2005, his squad won the NCAA D-II National Championship.
» The Series: Kansas City is 1-0 all-time against the Mavs. Last season, the Kangaroos took down Omaha on Sept. 24 for their first home victory, 2-1, as forward Taylor Bare scored both goals to set a team record most in a single match.
Last Time Out...
The Blue & Gold began league play with two games on the road at Western Illinois (10-2, 2-0 SL) and IUPUI (2-10-1, 0-1-1 SL).
Against the Leathernecks, Kansas City allowed four goals for the second time this season to fall 4-1.
During in the 39th minute, Western Illinois struck first when forward Sloane Levin (3) fed forward Chrissy Campbell (3) for the score.
About two minutes later, the Leathernecks increased its lead to two when midfielder Jordan Walgren (2) placed a corner-kick near the goalie box as the ball found its way into the net.
Coming out of the locker room after halftime, the Leathernecks wasted no time in pushing its lead to three when Taylor Henning (1) sent a header-pass to midfielder Sarah Wright (3) as she was able to knock it in.
During the 80th minute, Western Illinois capitalized off a Kangaroo turnover as Levin (4) picked up her second assist of the day when she found midfielder/forward Skyler Jessop (4)for the goal to make it a 4-0 contest.
The Kangaroos were able to get on the board during 82nd minute when midfielder Zaina Mayer (1) sent a pass to midfielder Hannah Chadick (2) for the score.
Kansas City bounced back two days later with a 1-0 win over the Jaguars as midfielder Catherine Hawn (1) found midfielder/forward Hunter Wagoner (2) on the right side deep in IUPUI territory during the 74th minute for the lone score of the contest.
In the net, freshman Megan Goetzinger saved two shots as she picked up the win in her first career start. As a team, the Kangaroos were able to hold IUPUI to six shots, while Kansas City registered 16.
Hot Hannah
After earning her first-career Summit League Offensive Player of the Week last week, Hannah Chadick continued her good play by scoring her second goal of the season against Western Illinois.
In the last five games, the Overland Park, Kan. native has registered both her goals while only on four shots, along with tallying two assists. For the season, Chadick is tied for the team lead in assists (3) with Hunter Wagoner, who also has two goals under her belt.
Kansas City in Summit League Home Openers
The Kangaroos are 1-1-1 all-time in Summit League home openers. In 2009, Kansas City suffered a 3-0 loss to IUPUI, followed by a scoreless tie with North Dakota State in 2010. Last season, the Kangaroos were able to come away with a 2-1 win over IUPUI in overtime.
Group Effort at the Keeper Spot
Throughout 2012, three keepers have seen action for Kansas City.
Freshman Nina Tzianos has logged the majority of the minutes (803:39), compiling a 2-4-3 record with 40 saves, two shutouts, and 15 goals allowed.
As for senior Jami Finnell, she is 1-2 on the year with one shutout, 28 saves, and four goals allowed. Earlier in the season, the Lincoln, Neb. native earned back-to-back Summit League Defensive Player of the Week honors (Aug. 20 and Aug. 27) giving her four for her career. Career wise, Finnell is the league's all-time leader in saves (440), while UMKC's leader in saves per game (7.33), wins (11), shutouts (8), and minutes played (5,551:44).
Also, Megan Goetzinger picked her first win and shutout of her career with a two-save performance against IUPUI this past week.
Through 13 Games Last Season...
The Kangaroos were 3-0 in league play and 5-5-3 overall coming off a 2-1 win at Fort Wayne for their fourth straight win.
