
Kangaroos Fall 3-1 To South Dakota On Think Pink Night

(Kansas City, Mo.) - The Kansas Volleyball team (15-11, 7-5) fell on Friday night, 3-1, to Summit League rival South Dakota (11-14, 5-8) in the annual Think Pink match, despite three Kangaroos reaching double figure kills in the match.
Leading the way on the offensive side were freshmen Emma Hagedorn and Skyler Muff, who each registered a team-high 14 kills, while senior Emily Lucas finished with 12.
The 'Roos staked an early 1-0 lead in the match with a 25-23 first set victory, building a seven point lead at 13-6 after back-to-back kills by from freshman Jessica Hendin and Lucas. The Coyotes would pull even late at 21-21, but kills by Muff and Hagedorn down the stretch gave the set to the 'Roos.
In the second set, South Dakota evened the match with a 25-21 win, using a 7-2 run with the score tied at 19 to take the set.
Coming out of the intermission, USD would take its first lead of the match with a 25-22 third set victory. In the set, the Yotes notched the first four points, before UMKC closed to within one on a Lindsay Zych service ace at 13-12. USD would push the lead back to three at 20-17, but three straight kills from Lucas, Hendin and Sydney Crimmins knotted the set at 20. The score would remain tied at 22-22, when South Dakota reeled off three straight to take the set.
In the final set, South Dakota would end the match with a 25-17 win, after leading the entire set.
Defensively, four 'Roos tallied 10 or more digs, including freshman Taryn Miller (25), Zych (17), Lucas (17) and freshman Nicole Wemhoff.
Wemhoff, meanwhile, added a team-high 27 assists to the effort for her 10th double-double of the season, while Lucas nabbed her 11th.
Crimmins added eight kills and tied Hagedorn for the team lead in blocks with four, while senior Ella Meier chipped in 24 assists.
The Blue & Gold will back in action again next Friday when they welcome in North Dakota State to the Swinney Recreation Center for a 7 p.m.
