Springfield, Mo. -- The UMKC women's soccer team competed in Springfield, Mo., on Wednesday night and fell to Missouri State, 1-0. The Kangaroos fall to 0-7 on the season while the Bears improve to 4-3-1. Jami Finnell was in the net for UMKC and recorded a career high 10 saves.
The game between the pair was evenly split on the field, as both teams fought to gain and keep possession. The UMKC defense would hold strong until the 30th minute when a lapse in communication would result in a Bears goal. Jenna Dobkins just happened to be in the right place at the right time, picking up a loose ball in the box and sending it to the lower right corner just out of Finnell's reach.
The `Roos concluded the half down by one goal despite being out shot, 19-3.
UMKC controlled much of the second half, leaving the Bears disorganized and frantic. The `Roos recorded three second half shots and held the Bears to just five shots. Despite their second half efforts, one goal is all Missouri State would need to secure the win.
Laura Creason led UMKC with two shots on goal, while Randi Simmons, Alyson Russell, Meagan Malloy and Meagan Shipley all tallied a shot.
After a five-game road trip, the Kangaroos are finally back at home in Durwood Soccer Stadium and Recreational Field on Sun., Sept. 20 against South Dakota at 4 p.m.
