
Women's Soccer Travels To Missouri State On Wednesday

Kansas City, Mo. -- The UMKC women's soccer team will head to Springfield, Mo., for a non-conference game against Missouri State on Wed., Sept. 16 at 5:30 p.m. The Kangaroos are coming off of a 3-2 loss to Murray State on Sept. 13 in the Puma Skyhawk Invitational.
UMKC is currently 0-6 on the season and are in search of the program's first win. For the `Roos, Zaina Mayer (2), Alyssa D'Egidio (1) and Alyson Russell (1) have all scored goals this season.
D'Egidio and Russell Named To The Puma Skyhawk Invitational All-Tournament Team
The UMKC women's soccer team landed two players on the 2009 Puma Skyhawk Invitational All-Tournament team following Sunday's game. Alyssa D'Egidio and Alyson Russell were named to the team for each scoring a goal against Murray State. The Kangaroos went 0-2 in the tournament and are still in search of their first program win.

D'Egidio and Russell Score In 3-2 Loss To Murray State
The UMKC women's soccer team wrapped things up in Martin, Tenn., in the Puma Skyhawk Invitational on Sunday. The Kangaroos were close to their first program win but fell to Murray State, 3-2. Alyssa D'Egidio and Alyson Russell both scored for the `Roos and Jami Finnell recorded nine saves in the back.
The Kangaroos jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute following a D'Egidio finish off of a Zaina Mayer cross. The freshman recorded her first collegiate goal for UMKC. But the `Roos wouldn't hold the lead for long as Nicole Evans would connect with Rachel Wright in the 27th minute to tie the game and close out the half at 1-1.
UMKC was awarded a penalty kick in the 48th minute and Russell put it away to put the lead back in the `Roos favor, 2-1.
The Kangaroo defense was unable to fight off 17 second half shots by the Racers and gave up two more goals. Katie Wilson scored in the 69th minute and the gamewinner for Murray State came in the 85th minute from Laken Dirkes.
Mayer Makes UMKC History
Anticipation was high for who would score the first goal in program history and Zaina Mayer was the first to step up for the Kangaroos. Mayer scored the program's first goal and her first collegiate goal on Fri., Sept. 4 at Northern Iowa. The Lincoln, Neb., native also struck again on Sun., Sept. 6 against Southeast Missouri State with her second goal of the season.
Welcome Back
It was slim pickings for awhile on the UMKC roster due to injury but the `Roos are back and healthy. The Kangaroos welcomed back junior Alyson Russell against SEMO on Sunday, she had been sidelined with a concussion during preseason. The talents of Katie Miller, Amanda Casalinuovo and Laura Creason were also back who all set out as a result of concussions. Staying healthy will be crucial for the UMKC women's soccer team this season with roster compiled of 16 players.

Jami Finnell is back on top The Summit League standings in saves. The freshman goalkeeper has recorded 39 saves headed into the game with Missouri State. Finnell ranks second in saves per game with 6.50.

The Bears are 3-3-1 headed into the game with UMKC. Missouri State is coming off of a 5-0 shutout over fellow Summit League opponent Oral Roberts. The Bears are led by Megan Jaskowiak who has six points on the year, two goals and two assists. In the goal for Missouri State this season has been Jessica Teahan. Teahan is 3-3-1 on the year and has three shutouts. She has given up eight goals and recorded 31 saves. The Bears are coached by Rob Brewer who is in his 14th season.
