
Kangaroos Host Coyotes On Sunday

Kansas City, Mo. -- The UMKC women's soccer is back at Durwood Soccer Stadium and Recreational Field on Sun., Sept. 20 after a five games on the road. The Kangaroos host South Dakota out at DSSRF at 5 p.m.
UMKC is currently 0-7 on the season and are in search of the program's first win. For the `Roos, Zaina Mayer (2), Alyssa D'Egidio (1) and Alyson Russell (1) have all scored goals this season.
Finnell's A Keeper
UMKC goalkeeper Jami Finnell had a big night on Wed., recording 10 saves against the Bears. The freshman tied her career high in saves, as she recorded 10 saves against Creighton back in August. Finnell leads the Summit League in saves and headed into the game with the Coyotes has 49 saves on the year.
On the Same Playing Field
The Kangaroos have been making great strides over the past few weeks despite not recording the program's first win. Against Missouri State, UMKC bounced back from an overwhelming first half (they were out shot 19-3) to control the majority of the second half. The Kangaroos took six shots with four of those being placed on goal and had some aggressive looks at the goal.

UMKC Drops Close One at Missouri State, 1-0
The UMKC women's soccer team competed in Springfield, Mo., on Wednesday night and fell to Missouri State, 1-0. The Kangaroos fall to 0-7 on the season while the Bears improve to 4-3-1. Jami Finnell was in the net for UMKC and recorded a career high 10 saves.
The game between the pair was evenly split on the field, as both teams fought to gain and keep possession. The UMKC defense would hold strong until the 30th minute when a lapse in communication would result in a Bears goal. Jenna Dobkins just happened to be in the right place at the right time, picking up a loose ball in the box and sending it to the lower right corner just out of Finnell's reach.
The `Roos concluded the half down by one goal despite being out shot, 19-3.
UMKC controlled much of the second half, leaving the Bears disorganized and frantic. The `Roos recorded three second half shots and held the Bears to just five shots. Despite their second half efforts, one goal is all Missouri State would need to secure the win.
Laura Creason led UMKC with two shots on goal, while Randi Simmons, Alyson Russell, Meagan Malloy and Meagan Shipley all tallied a shot.
D'Egidio and Russell Named To The Puma Skyhawk Invitational All-Tournament Team
The UMKC women's soccer team landed two players on the 2009 Puma Skyhawk Invitational All-Tournament team following Sunday's game. Alyssa D'Egidio and Alyson Russell were named to the team for each scoring a goal against Murray State. The Kangaroos went 0-2 in the tournament and are still in search of their first program win.
Mayer Makes UMKC History
Anticipation was high for who would score the first goal in program history and Zaina Mayer was the first to step up for the Kangaroos. Mayer scored the program's first goal and her first collegiate goal on Fri., Sept. 4 at Northern Iowa. The Lincoln, Neb., native also struck again on Sun., Sept. 6 against Southeast Missouri State with her second goal of the season.
