
UMKC Women's Soccer Falls At Oakland

Pontiac, Mich. -- The UMKC women's soccer team was on the road for its first Summit League game on Friday night. The Kangaroos fell 8-0 to the Oakland Golden Grizzlies. UMKC falls to 0-10-1 on the season and 0-1 in Summit League play. Jami Finnell was in net for UMKC and recorded 11 saves and faced 43 shots.
Oakland jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, securing its first goal in just the third minute. The Golden Grizzlies would get three more in to take a 4-0 lead headed into the locker room. Four more goals in the second period would secure the victory and the shutout for Oakland.
The Kangaroos recorded nine shots on the night, with Zaina Mayer and Meagan Shipley leading the way. Mayer took three shots, placing two of them on frame and Shipley recorded two shots with both of them being on goal.
UMKC will continue its stretch on the road against Summit League opponent IPFW for an 11 a.m. match on Sun., Oct. 4.
