
Kangaroos Take On Mastodons In Summit League Action On Sunday

Kansas City, Mo. -- The UMKC women's soccer team continues its opening weekend of Summit League play on Sun., Oct. 4. The Kangaroos head to Fort Wayne, Ind., for a match at IPFW. UMKC is coming off of a 8-0 loss at Oakland.
UMKC is currently 0-10-1 on the season and 0-1 in league play and is in search of the program's first win. For the `Roos, Zaina Mayer (3), Alyssa D'Egidio (1), Alyson Russell (1) and Meagan Shipley (1) have all scored goals this season.

Jami Finnell is on top The Summit League standings in saves. The freshman goalkeeper has recorded 95 saves headed into the match with IPFW.
Injuries Plague `Roos
The UMKC Kangaroos have been plagued by injuries for the majority of the 2009 season but have still managed to compete with opponents. The `Roos have had seven players suffer concussions this season and have had several other nagging injuries, resulting in the bench being bare. UMKC will welcome back Randi Simmons this weekend and hope to have Valerie Martin, Sarah Schultehenrich and Alyssa D'Egidio 100 percent in a couple of weeks.

The UMKC women's soccer team was on the road for its first Summit League game on Friday night. The Kangaroos fell 8-0 to the Oakland Golden Grizzlies. UMKC falls to 0-10-1 on the season and 0-1 in Summit League play. Jami Finnell was in net for UMKC and recorded 11 saves and faced 43 shots.
Oakland jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, securing its first goal in just the third minute. The Golden Grizzlies would get three more in to take a 4-0 lead headed into the locker room. Four more goals in the second period would secure the victory and the shutout for Oakland.
The Kangaroos recorded nine shots on the night, with Zaina Mayer and Meagan Shipley leading the way. Mayer took three shots, placing two of them on frame and Shipley recorded two shots with both of them being on goal.
