WIU opened the scoring in the bottom of the third, as Julie DePolo hit a two-run home run into left field, but UMKC had an immediate answer in the top of the fourth.
Monica Canisales singled to second with one out, advancing to third on a double by Megan Ussary. A single by Alicia Baker plated Canisales, with Lauren Cross singling to load the bases. Hartung flew out to left, with Ussary and Baker scoring as the WIU shortstop couldn't make the cutoff throw. UMKC wasn't able to add to its lead, however, as Carli Slagle popped up to end the inning.
