Kansas City, Mo. -- The Kangaroos were able to pick up two doubles against the Centenary pitching staff in the nightcap, but fell in both ends of Tuesday's doubleheader by 7-0 and 3-1 margins.
UMKC put a runner in scoring position in the top of the second, as Alicia Baker singled to lead off the inning and was advanced by a well-placed bunt from Lauren Cross, but the Kangaroos couldn't push a run across.
Centenary threatened in the top of the fourth, loading the bases with two outs, but Baker was able to make a diving grab on a shallow looper and flip to first for the out.
The Ladies were able to score two runs in the top of the fifth, with UMKC unable to answer in its half of the frame.
UMKC kept the Ladies scoreless in the sixth, but couldn't post a run in the bottom of the inning. Ashley Whiteside picked up a two-out single with a solid bunt, but was caught stealing to end the inning.
Centenary put the game out of reach in the top of the seventh, adding five runs.
In the nightcap, neither team was able to score through the first three innings. Centenary struck first, scoring two in the top of the fourth inning, courtesy of doubles by Bonnie Matak and Allison Shepperd.
UMKC was able to pull one back in the bottom of the frame, also courtesy of a pair of doubles, this time back-to-back two-baggers. Megan Ussary led off the inning with her third double of the season, with Lauren Cross plating her on the next at-bat.
The Ladies were able to stretch the margin back to two in the top of the fifth and hold on for a 3-1 win.
Baker took the loss for the Kangaroos in the first game with Samantha Hurst charged with the decision for UMKC in the nightcap.
UMKC (2-15, 0-4 Summit) will wrap up the series with Centenary on Wednesday. The game is set for a noon start at Cleveland Park.
