Christi Posey enters the 2025 season with a Kansas City career record of 217-184 (.541), including 127-96 (.570) in conference action. The 2025 campaign will be her 15th as a college head coach and 42nd overall, combining high school (16), college assistant coaching (11) and college head coach duties (15).
With the team’s success, Posey has moved into the top spot on the Kansas City all-time wins list (217) and most seasons coached (14). Her 401 games coached is also the most in KC program history, passing Steve Dallman (245) during the 2019 campaign. Posey is the ninth head coach in school history and is the only one with a winning percentage (.541).
In her 14Â previous seasons, she has amassed a winning record in 10Â campaigns after the program accumulated just one winning season in the 24 years prior to her arrival. The 24 wins in 2014, 22 wins in 2023 and 21 victories in 2018 and 2021 are the most successful seasons for any volleyball coach in program history.
In the 2024 season, the Roos earned six victories, four of which came in Summit League play. Posey coached her 400th game at Kansas City in a 1-3 defeat to Omaha on November 19, 2024. Senior Kaia Dunford was awarded with a bid to the All-Summit League First Team and led the squad in points and kills over the course of the 2024Â campaign. Â
The 2023 season was one to remember, as Kansas City produced the second-most wins in program history (22), claimed a share of The Summit League regular season title with a 12-4 mark in league play and earned the second postseason tournament bid in program history. The Roos began the season hot, rattling off a 6-0 record for the best start to a season in program history. KC continued to roll through the competition in league play, ending the regular season on a four-match win streak and clinching a share of the conference championship with a 3-0 sweep of St. Thomas on Nov. 15. The Roos took the top seed into the conference tournament, defeating #5 NDSU in the semifinals before falling to #2 Omaha in the championship.
Posey was honored by the league as the 2023 Coach of the Year, while Leah Green brought home Defensive Player of the Year honors. In addition, Odyssey Warren and Sydney Henry were named First Team All-League, with Kaia Dunford and Carly Gillen earning Honorable Mention All-League nods. Kansas City continued to flex its muscles in the classroom as well, with Gillen, Green and Warren being named Academic All-Summit.
In the 2022 season, a young Kansas City team brought home 10 wins on the year, seven of which came in Summit League play. Junior Odyssey Warren earned Honorable Mention All-League honors, while freshman Kimora Whetstone was named to the All-Freshman Team.
In the fall of 2021, the Roos went 9-4 in non-conference play and finished undefeated at both the Appalachian State and SEMO tournaments. Kansas City knocked off Missouri on their home court at the Mizzou tournament, while also defeating in-state foe, Saint Louis. The Roos finished the season 21-10 overall and 12-6 in the Summit, while defeating Denver for the first time in program history. The seniors brought home the hardware as Maddie Renn became the first Defensive Player of the Year in program history, and Melanie Brecka, Alli Schomers, De'Janae Arnold and Renn were all named First Team All-Summit.
In the 2020 season, which was played in the spring of 2021 due to COVID-19, Posey reintroduced the Roos to the Summit League with a bang. Kansas City started the year 13-1, the best start in program history, and took the second-place regular season Summit League title. The Roos rattled off 11-straight wins during a stretch spanning from early February through late March, the Roos' longest winning streak since the 2014 team took 17-straight. Individually, Melanie Brecka was honored as the Summit League Player of the Year and a AVCA Honorable Mention All-American, and Alli Schomers was named conference Setter of the Year for the second-straight season. Both were named First Team All-Summit, while Alex Ratzlaff and Maddie Renn were Honorable Mention and Odyssey Warren and Ashia Dorsey were named to the All-Freshman team.
The 2019 campaign was a historic one as Posey took Kansas City to a 17-12 record and its first-ever postseason tournament. The Roos faced UNLV in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC) on Dec. 5, dropping a 3-1 decision in the first round. The Roos were one of 32 teams invited to the tournament. Of the 12 losses on the year, 10 came to AVCA Top 100 squads and three came to Top 50 teams. The best stretch of volleyball occurred from Oct. 31 - Nov. 14, when the Roos rattled off five-straight wins, dropping just three sets along the way. Individually, Alicia Harrington was honored on the All-WAC First Team for the second year in-a-row. Alli Schomers was named WAC Setter of the Year, Ty Lukes and Melanie Brecka were honored on the All-WAC Second Team.
In 2018, the squad enjoyed a 21-11 mark, the third-most wins in the history of the program. The 11-5 record in league play were the most since 2014. The Roos earned the No. 3 seed in the postseason conference tournament and advanced to the semifinal round. Individually, Ty Lukes and Alicia Harrington were honored on the All-WAC First Team, while Melanie Brecka was a Second-Teamer.
During the 2017 season, Posey won her 100th career college game in the 3-0 win over Marshall on Aug. 26, 2017. Posey became the only coach in school history to hit the 100-win threshold.
The 2015 and 2016 campaigns each ended with 15 victories overall. That capped a stretch of five-straight winning seasons for Posey and the Roos.
In 2014, Posey guided the Roos to the greatest season in the history of the program as Kansas City claimed their first ever conference championship, winning the WAC regular season title. During the season, the Roos won a pair of preseason tournament titles for the first time in school history with crowns at the CEFCU Classic and FGCU Hilton Garden Inn/Homewood Suites Classic, knocked off Missouri for the third time in school history and the first time since 1994 and set school records for overall wins (24), conference wins (12) and consecutive wins (17) leading to Posey being named as the WAC Coach of the Year.
Under her direction, Emma Hagedorn was named the WAC Player of the Year and was joined on the First Team All-WAC by Sydney Crimmins and Taryn Miller, while Melissa Hartsel was placed on the Second Team All-WAC. Miller, meanwhile, garnered AVCA Division I All-Midwest Region Honorable Mention honors and was named to the CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District 6 First Team.
In 2013, the Roos finished with just their third winning record in school history and the first time ever finishing with a winning record in back-to-back seasons after the squad finished 15-14 overall. On the year, Crimmins and Miller each garnered Second Team All-WAC recognition and Kaylyn Brandt was named to the All-Freshman team, while Emma Hagedorn set the school record for blocks in a season and a game.
Off the court, Crimmins was selected as the WAC's representative to the NCAA's SAAC, while Crimmins, Miller, Brandt, Skyler Muff, Morgan Voorhes and Nicole Wemhoff all garnered Academic All-WAC honors.
In 2012, Posey guided the Roos to a 17-13 record overall, which was the second most wins (at the time) in school history, while Emily Lucas was named to the First Team All-Summit League and Hagedorn was named Honorable Mention All-Summit League and to the Summit League All-Freshman Team. Muff, meanwhile, was named to a pair of preseason all-tournament teams, while Lucas and Miller were each named to one.
Academically, three individuals were named to the Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence, while seven were named to The Summit League Fall Academic Honor Roll, including four as Distinguished Scholars.
In her first season in 2011 as the Roos head coach, Posey guided the squad to a 12-17 record overall and a 6-12 mark in Summit League play, including five wins in their final seven matches. During the year, the first year coach saw five separate players named to all-tournament teams, while leading Kansas City to a 3-0 record in the Radford Tournament, its first preseason title since 2002. Under her watch, seniors Christiana McQuin (blocks and block assists) and Nicole Kerkman (digs) each set new school records.
Academically, eight Roos were named to The Summit League Fall Academic All-League Team, including three as Distinguished Scholars, while the team claimed its third NCAA Public Recognition Award from the NCAA in the last four years after finishing in the top-10 percent in APR of all NCAA Division I volleyball teams for the 2010-11 season.
Prior to joining the Kansas City program, Posey spent 11 seasons as the top assistant and recruiting coordinator at the University of Kansas, where she landed the No. 26-ranked class in the nation according to PrepVolleyball.com in 2010.
While at Kansas, Posey worked with the team’s setters and defensive specialists, while also serving as the team’s recruiting coordinator, overseeing the team’s managers, team room and camp administration, and acting as a liaison between the team and its sports psychologist, promotions department and the weight room
During her time on the sidelines, Posey oversaw the development of many impressive Jayhawks, including 2010 team members Melissa Manda and Nicole Tate. Under Posey’s guidance, Manda became the all-time digs leader at KU with 1,457 digs in her career, while Tate served as the team’s primary setter the past three season and was named to the 2008 all-Big 12 Freshman squad.
From 2002-05, Posey worked with Andi Rozum who became Kansas’ all-time leader in assists, as well as Jennifer Kraft, who was named 2002 Big 12 Defensive Specialist of the Year.
Prior to heading to Lawrence, Posey served as the head volleyball coach at Blue Valley Northwest High School in Overland Park, Kan., from 1993 to 2000. During that time, Posey led the Huskies to KSHSAA state tournaments in each of her eight seasons, winning the state championships in 1996 and 1997, while finishing third three times. At Blue Valley Northwest, Posey also served as head girls’ basketball and assistant softball coach for the Huskies and was named a member of its inaugural Husky Hall of Fame class.
While coaching the Huskies, she was named the 1999 Johnson County Volleyball Coach of the Year by the Kansas City Star, the 1997 Coach of the Year by the Kansas Volleyball Association and Kansas Sport Magazine after leading her team to a perfect 44-0 record, including a second-straight KSHSAA state championship and the 1996 Coach of the Year by Kansas Sport Magazine and Sports Connection after guiding her team to a 41-3 record and the state championship.
Before taking over the coaching duties at Blue Valley Northwest, Posey served in the same position at Halstead (Kan.) High School from 1983-90 where she was selected to serve as head coach at the 1990 Kansas Volleyball Association’s annual All-Star Game after being named co-Coach of the Year by the KVA. Four times her squad’s qualified for the state tournament, including a third-place finish in 1990.
In her 18 years as a high school coach, Posey compiled an overall record of 392-171.
During her college career, Posey lettered in volleyball and softball at Wichita State as a freshman and sophomore before transferring to Kansas for her final two years of eligibility, where she was a standout first baseman and outfielder for the KU softball team.
Posey received a bachelor’s degree in education from University of Kansas in 1982 where she majored in physical education and minored in health education.
