KANSAS CITY, Mo. --Â The Kansas City 2026 outdoor season has built up to this as the Roos look to grab a plethora of gold medals in addition to aiming for the team titles at the Summit League Outdoor Championships this weekend.Â
The BasicsÂ
The BasicsÂ
- The 2026 Summit League Outdoor Championships will take place at the Terrence Dahl and Donna Beres Track Complex in Fargo, North Dakota, from Thursday through Saturday, May 14-16. Live coverage of the meet will be available on the Summit League Network through Midco Sports Plus and on Hero Timing.Â
- In 2025, the Roos came in seventh place on the men's side and sixth on the women's. Kansas City racked up three gold medals in Vermillion last year with Tory Lanham and Nahshon Houston earning individual titles and the Roos' 4x400-meter relay squad taking first place over SDSU in a memorable photo finish.Â
- Last time the Roos won a Summit League team title for outdoors was 2000 with both the Kansas City men and women taking the team titles that year. Last time the Roos won an outdoor conference title was in 2017 with both the men and women taking home team titles in the WAC Outdoor Championships.Â
- Tory LanhamÂ
- A three-peat will be on the mind of Lanham come Saturday afternoon as the two-time defending Summit League 200MÂ champion will aim to defend his individual title yet again. If successful, Lanham will become just the third men's athlete in Summit League history to be a three-time champion in the 200-meter dash and the first to do so since 2005.Â
- Last year's Summit Outdoor Championships where one for the history books as Lanham was awarded Most Outstanding Championship Performer and was later named the Summit's Track Athlete of the Year following gold medals in the 200m, 4x400m and a silver medal in the 4x100m.
- In 2026, Lanham heads into the conference meet as the Summit leader in the 100m (10.25), 200m (20.47) and anchors the Roos' league-leading 4x100m (39.59), 4x400m (3:07.92) squads.Â
- Stephen ClunisÂ
- Coming off a 60-meter dash title at the 2026 Summit Indoor Championships, Clunis has brought that same speedy pace to outdoor season, particularity in the 100-meter dash where the senior sprinter ranks second in the conference with a time of 10.28 seconds.Â
- Clunis' time of 10.28 seconds at the Rock Chalk Classic is a Kansas City program record because of wind resistance holding Lanham's time of 10.25 seconds back from record-contention.Â
- Clunis was the second leg of the Roos' conference-leading 4x100-meter team that set a program record of 39.59 seconds at the John McDonnell Invite.Â
- If Clunis or another Roo can claim the 100-meter title, they will have become the first Kansas City men's athlete to ever win 100m gold in the program's time in the Summit League.Â
- Amari Eugene
- Eugene will be in medal contention for several events as the sophomore sprinter comes into the conference meet ranked second in the 200m (21.10) and fourth in the 100m (10.48). Eugene is also a key member of the Roos' Summit-leading 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams that will look for golds at this year's conference meet.Â
- Last year, Eugene racked up three medals at the Summit Outdoor Championships, taking silver in the 200m and 4x100m while taking part in KC's gold medal performance in the 4x400m.Â
- Brendan BadieÂ
- As just a freshman, Badie leads the Summit League in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.45 seconds that came at the Arkansas Twilight. Badie's time of 52.45 seconds is the only sub-53 second time recorded by a Summit athlete this outdoor seasons and ranks fourth all-time in school history.Â
- A win in the 400-meter hurdles would be the Roos' first Summit title in the event since Anthony Boyer's time of 51.74 seconds in 2010.Â
- Naomi EyanaghoÂ
- Competing in her third Summit Outdoor Championships meet, Eyanagho will search for her first career medal as the junior from Prosper, Texas leads the conference in the shot put with a school record throw of 15.74 meters at the Arkansas Spring Invitational.Â
- Eyanagho came very close to a medal at this past Summit Indoor Championships, recording a mark of 14.11 meters to finish just off the podium in fourth.Â
- With a win in the event, Eyanagho would become the Roos' first individual title winner since McKenzie Pearson in the triple jump in 2024 and the first Roo to ever win a Summit title in the women's shot put.Â
- Jacky Perez-VelaÂ
- A bronze medalist in the 400m at this past Summit Indoor Championships, Perez-Vela has proved to the conference she's here to stay as the sophomore set a school record and Summit-leading 400-meter dash time of 54.16 seconds at the Arkansas Spring Invitational.Â
- Perez-Vela ran a time of 54.92 seconds to finish third at the 2026 Summit League Indoor Championships, claiming the only medal on the women's side at the meet.
- A title in the 400-meter dash would be Kansas City's first since Marcia Daniel's time of 55.32 seconds in 2000.Â
- Mariah Belmont
- Belmont wil have a chance to compete for the 3000-meter steeplechase crown and her first career Summit medal this weekend as the sophomore distance specialist comes into the conference meet boasting a career-best 3000s time of 10:28.40, the second fastest time in the league this outdoor season.Â
- Belmont finished eighth at the 2025 Summit Outdoor Championships with a time of 11:18.27 in the 3000-meter steeplechase.Â
- The Roos haven't won the 3000-meter steeplechase since program record holder Courtney Frerichs won it with a time of 10:15.79 in 2013.Â
