KC's brilliant sprints duo showed out Friday, grabbing the top two spots in the 200m
COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Kansas City Track & Field took major steps forward as a team on Friday afternoon with several Roos either winning an event or taking top three at the Missouri Invitational.
Kansas City's performance was headlined by Tory Lanham and Amari Eugene, who both took the top two spots in the final heat of the men's 200-meter dash. This time last year, Lanham set the meet and facility men's indoor 200m record, running a then career-best time of 20.93 seconds. This year, Lanham remarkably equaled that same time of 20.93 seconds to once again take first in the 200m while tying his own individual indoor record and equal the Kansas CIty program record that was set this time a year ago. Lanham's 20.93 time is the best time in the Summit League and ranks 28th nationally. Lanham also took second in the men's 60-meter dash with a time of 6.83 seconds while Jared Wipf notched a time of 6.85 seconds to take third.Â
Eugene gave Lanham a run for his money, pushing the pace in the final 200m heat and producing an elite time of 21.39 seconds. Eugene finished second in the event and his time also ranks second in the Summit League less than a month away from the conference meet. Eugene's excellent mark ranks third in Kansas City men's indoor 200m history, behind Lanham and Stepphen Brown's 21.27 second time from last season. For Eugene, his best overall 200m time is 20.90 but for indoor, this marks the Canadian's best time set at an indoor meet of his career.Â
On the women's side, Naomi Eyanagho took first in the women's shot put with a mark of 13.92 meters. The junior ranks third in the Summit League in the shot put this indoor season with a career-best throw of 14.80 meters back at the Crimson & Gold Invite. Elsewhere, Brooke Williams finished eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 5.82 meters. Maddie Dial and Jacky Perez-Vela finished eighth and ninth respectively with 200m times of 25.24 and 25.38 seconds while Harper Barlow finished 10th in the women's mile with a time of 5:11.05 in Columbia.Â
Next up for the Roos is the Tyson Invitational next Friday and Saturday.Â
