FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Kansas City Track & Field competed at the Arkansas Qualifier and Nebraska Tune Up on Friday afternoon, setting themselves up well for the biggest meet of the season next weekend, the Summit League Indoor Championships in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Among the Roos strong showings was another school record in the 200-meter dash by outdoor All-American Tory Lanham.
The sophomore (for indoor) sprinter totaled a second-place 200m time of 20.82 seconds, re-setting the Kansas City program record for the second consecutive week in a row. As he has all season long, Lanham leads the Summit League in the 200m and will search for back-to-back gold medals in the event next week in Grand Forks. Lanham is now tied for 34th in the nation in the 200-meter dash. Also excelling in the 200-meter dash in Fayetteville was Amari Eugene. Last year's indoor bronze medalist at the conference meet, Eugene ran a new season-best of 21.32, placing sixth in a stacked group of racers. Eugene is second behind Lanham in the Summit League 200-meter rankings heading into conference meet week.Â
In Nebraska, Kansas City saw several other notable outings including a first place finish for Jacky Perez-Vela in the women's 200-meter dash. Perez-Vela ran a time of 25.01 seconds in Lincoln on Friday, finishing less than a tenth faster than the next quickest runner. Sarah Wulfert and Tonique Fleming did well in the 60-meter dash, coming away with times of 7.85 and 7.97 seconds to place fifth and sixth respectively.Â
