
Kansas City Drops Penultimate Home Game to Denver

Emani Bennett led the Roos with 20 points, her seventh game of 20-plus this year
The Roos came out fast in the first quarter going on a 8-2 scoring run lasting for two minutes to go up 18-11. The scoring run was aided by Em. Bennett, who notched eight points on four field goals made. In the first, the Roos shot 61.5% from the field as a team. Denver bore down in the second quarter, getting hot from deep. Pioneers guard and leading scorer, Coryn Watts with 15 points, nailed 3-threes to give them confidence. As a team, the Pioneers attempted nine threes and made six (66.7%).
For the Roos, their leading scorer, Em. Bennett, recorded 11 points and was efficient, shooting 71.4% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc. As a whole, they went stale on the offensive side, shooting 30.8% from the field. It was a sloppy second quarter for Kansas City as they turned the ball over six times and the Pioneers converted 14 points off of turnovers, helping them steal the lead from KC and are up 37-28 entering the third quarter. The Pioneers went on a scoring frenzy going on an 8-0 run that lasted for a minute and a half.
The third quarter was much of the same offense from KC as the Roos shot a team percentage of 21.1% from the field and were unable to connect on their five three-point attempts and only managed to score 14 total points, half of them coming from Em. Bennett. The Pioneers continued to impress the stats sheet as they shot a 75% from the field and 50% from deep. The Pios began the third with another 8-0 run that distanced themselves from KC by 18. The Roos only managed to cut their deficit as low as 13 in the quarter. On the plus side, the Roos out rebounded the Pioneers 40-26, and scored more second chance points than Denver. Tierra Trotter joined Bennett in the double figures club, racking up 15 points and six assists.
