Kansas City takes first in four events including the women's 3000, mile, shot put and men's 1000
COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Coming off a long layoff, Kansas City Track & Field was back in action on Saturday as the Roos ent toe-to-toe with other schools in the state of Missouri at the Alexis Jarrett Invitational. The Roos showed plenty of promise in the first two meets of the indoor season to close 2025. To start 2026, KC continued to build on that positive momentum as several Roos delivered personal-best marks to begin their year. All in all, the Roos won four events as a team, taking first place in the women's mile, 3000-meter dash, shot put and men's 1000-meter dash.Â
Most notably, Kansas City took first and third place in the women's mile as Mariah Belmont took the crown with a time of 5:04.36. The top women's mile time of the meet is a new personal-best for the sophomore distance runner. Belmont shaved over 15 seconds off her previous mark in the mile, highlighting the year-to-year strides the Macomb, Mich. native has made in her time as a Roo. Fellow women's distance runner, Harper Barlow also set a new career-best mile time at Mizzou, running a time of 5:13.69 to claim third place in the event. Barlow also ran a strong race in the 3000-meter dash, going 10:54.63 in Columbia.Â
Kansas City had great success on the women's side this past weekend, with Maddie Dial and Jacky Perez-Vela placing inside the top six finishers in the women's 200-meter dash. Dial notched a new career-best time of 25.56 and placed sixth while Perez-Vela totaled a time of 25.35 to finish on the podium in third. Naomi Eyanagho proved to be the best in the women's shot put, grabbing first place thanks to a throw of 13.73 meters.Â
On the men's side, Kansas City saw more positive results as Tory Lanham ran a 47.72 second time in the 400-meter dash. Already the program record holder in the event, Lanham came a tenth of a second shy of equaling his career-best time of 47.62 but still took second place in the Alexis Jarrett Invitational 400m. The Roos performed well in the men's 1000-meter dash, with Kai White and M.J. Foster taking first and second place respectively. White finished with a time of 2:30.61 while Foster was nipping on his heels at 2:30.67. Both came within two seconds of their personal best times in the men's 1000m. Â
Kansas City's climb continues on Friday as the Roos head back to Columbia, Mo. for the Show Me Showdown.Â
