Kansas City men finished fifth, women sixth at the 2024 conference meet
For the final time as a team in the 2025 outdoor season, Kansas City will lace up the spikes as the Roos get set to compete in this year's Summit League Outdoor Championships this Thursday-Saturday from May 15-17. In 2024, Kansas City amassed a steady 66 points on the men's side to finish fifth place while the women totaled 38 points to come in sixth place in the conference. Tory Lanham, a then freshman for KC, earned the gold medal in the 200-meter dash clocking in with a 21.07 time to take last year's 200m outdoor title.Â
Last time out, Kansas City had a balanced outing at the Arkansas Twilight that was spotlighted by Lanham's record-breaking 200m time of 20.51. Additionally, several other Roos set new career-best times across various events to provide KC with a lot of momentum heading into the most important meet of the season. Lanham, Amari Eugene, Hunter Ross and Mason Rogers are all top five runners in their receptive events heading into the Summit League Outdoor Championships with the Roos 4x100-meter relay team sporting the top time in the conference as well.Â
Roos To Watch
- Tory Lanham - Still the top dog, Lanham has taken his game to the next level in 2025. The sophomore is coming off a legendary indoor conference meet performance where he won a gold medal in the 200m, silver in the 100m and was part of the 4x400m relay squad that took silver. As the reigning Summit League outdoor 200m champion, Lanham's best time of 20.51 is the best in the conference, giving him a strong chance to win gold in back to back years.Â
- Amari Eugene - Giving Lanham his stiffest competition is none other than fellow star sprinter, Amari Eugene. The talented freshman posted a 200m time of 20.90, second best in the Summit League and the only other member besides Lanham in the 200m sub-21 second club. Eugene will aim for a medal at the Summit League Outdoor Championship and figures to be in a strong position to do so.Â
- Hunter Ross - Ross has paved a path of stellar success in the outdoor season. The senior jumper notched a career-best triple jump mark of 14.83 meters, giving him a tie for the fourth highest ranked spot in the conference men's triple jump rankings this season. Ross will be in the thick of medal contention come the Summit League Outdoor Championships men's triple jump at 1 p.m. on Saturday.Â
- Maddie Dial - The Oklahoma State transfer has worked her way into clear medal contention heading into the 400-meter hurdles trials on Thursday and finals on Saturday. Dial recorded a career-best time of 1:01.12 at the Arkansas Twilight, placing her sixth on the conference leaderboard. Dial will look to jockey her way into a top three placement and give the Roos a nice points boost on the women's side.Â
- Jacky Perez-Vela - The true freshman has produced at a high level for the Roos in the women's 400-meter dash. Perez-Vela registered a career-best time of 55.47 at the USD Tune Up. That time is eighth best in the Summit League making Perez-Vela a strong candidate to reach the 400m finals and a sleeper in the event as a whole.Â
- Brooke Williams - Williams has held down the fort in the women's triple jump all season long, posting a season-best mark of 12.10 meters at the Kansas Relays. At the indoor championships, Williams finished sixth in the conference with a career-best triple jump mark of 12.14 meters.
