Kansas City braces for John McDonnell Invite on Friday and then travels back to Kansas for the Rock Chalk Classic on Saturday
For the first time in the 2025 outdoor season, Kansas City Track & Field will be competing at two meets in two days as the Roos get set to travel to Fayetteville, Ark. for the John McDonnell Invite this Friday and then pack up for the Rock Chalk Classic in Lawrence, Kan. on Saturday. It will be the third and final time the Roos participate in a meet hosted by the Jayhawks this year. The Roos will head to Fayetteville again later in mid-May when they take part in the annual Arkansas Twilight meet.Â
Last time out, KC took part in the Kansas Relays where the Roos pushed through poor weather on day two of the meet. Several triple jumpers excelled in the sand pit last weekend including Brooke Williams, who notched a 12.10 meter mark, coming up just shy of her career-best mark of 12.14 meters. Hunter Ross registered a career-best mark in the triple jump of 14.83 meters to guide the Roos to a solid showing at KU.Â
Roos To WatchÂ
- Tory Lanham - Last time Lanham was on the track, he blazed a 20.59 second 200-meter dash time, erasing his prior career-best and program record time that he set last season. The sophomore will be gunning for his second conference weekly award of the outdoor season and his fifth of the overall year in Arkansas/Kansas this weekend.Â
- Kai White - White flew through the 800-meter dash at the KT Woodman Classic a couple weeks ago, recording a 1:56.15 time. The Summit League Academic All-League honoree ran a career-best 1:52.98, a top five indoor 800m time in program history, at the Show-Me-Showdown back in mid-January.Â
- Samuel Cleary - Cleary has been doing nothing but setting career-best times this year, showcasing PR's in the 10,000M, 5,000M and 3,000M in the 2024-25 season. The sophomore distance racer finished with a 5000m PR time of 15:00.40, nearly breaking the elusive 15 minute mark at the Iowa State Holiday Invitational.Â
- Mariah Belmont - Running again in the 3000m steeplechase, Belmont set a new personal record of 11:28.94 at the KT Woodman Classic last time out. That time was good for a top five placement in all-time Roos outdoor T&F history, placing fourth in the record books.Â
- Maddie Dial - The graduate transfer was dialed in at the KT Woodman Classic, zooming a 1:05.01 time in the 400-meter hurdles to set a new personal best. Dial's time remains the 14th best in the 400m hurdles in the Summit League this outdoor season.Â
- Shavelle Shaw - Shaw darted a 25.42 at the KT Woodman Classic in the 200-meter dash, marking a new career-best time in that event for the Kingston, Jamaica native. The time remains inside the top 25 for the Summit League this outdoor season.
