
Lanham Wins Men’s Track MVP at Summit League Indoor Championships

Tory Lanham becomes the first Roo since 2010-11 to be named men’s track championship MVP of the Summit League
BROOKINGS, S.D. – Kansas City Track & Field brought their best to the table at the Summit League Indoor Championships, earning a plethora of individual medals and taking home one of the MVP trophies back to KC. The Roos won two gold, two silver and two bronze medals on the individual level and placed fifth in the final Summit League standings on the men's side and sixth on the women's.
KC's men's squad totaled 62 points, finishing 12 points off of the fourth place Fighting Hawks of North Dakota. Likewise, the women's team recorded 16.5 points to finish a few points ahead of Omaha in the standings. All together, the Roos notched 78.5 points and finished a spot higher than they were projected to finish in the Summit League men's and women's preseason rankings.
Tory Lanham was yet again the talk of the town, capping off a marvelous indoor season by taking home the Summit League Men's Track Championship MVP trophy. Lanham won the gold medal in the 200m and the silver in the 60m which yielded 20 total points, more than any other men's track competitor at the meet.

Key Track Results
- 60-meter dash - The Roos earned a pair of podium spots in the men's 60-meter dash final as Lanham and Junior Powell dashed at a lightning quick pace to claim the silver and bronze medals respectively. Lanham darted towards a second place finish with a time of 6.82 seconds which followed his 6.80 second qualifying time on Friday. Powell dashed a 6.83 second time to come in third place after the veteran sprinter ran a 6.79 in the prelims a day prior.
- 200-meter dash - Lanham earned platinum status with his 200-meter dash performance, running a 21.07 second time to leave the competition in the dust and take home one of two gold medals at the conference meet for the Roos. Fellow sprinter Amari Eugene came in third place in the 200m, sprinting a speedy time of 21.59 in the final round and 21.65 in the prelim round. Powell also made the final round of the 200m, running a time of 21.57 on Friday and placing seventh in the finals.
- 400-meter dash - The Roos got another excellent outing from the men's sprints group in the 400-meter dash. Logan Pratt came just shy of the podium, nabbing fourth place in the 400m finals with a time of 47.97. Pratt's excellent time is a new personal best and ranks top five in Roos school history. Arvesta Schine reached a qualifying time of 48.23 on Friday and finished in fourth place for the 400m prelim round.
- 800-meter dash - Kai White performed well in the 800-meter dash, recording a qualifying time of 1:53.47 in the preliminary round on Friday to finish seventh out of the pack. White notched a time of 1:56.87 in the final round to place eighth in the 800m on Saturday.
- 4x400-meter relay - Kansas City finished second in the Summit League 4x400-meter relay. Lanham, Schine, Pratt and Najee Simpson made up the four legs of the Roos silver medal placement in the conference's lone relay race. KC finished with a time of 3:13.19, less than a second behind the first place Jackrabbits of South Dakota State.

- Long jump - Kansas City got a big boost in the point total thanks to Nahshon Houston, who became a Summit League champion with his 7.39 meter mark to claim gold. Houston's 7.39 jump nearly tied his career best jump of 7.40 meters which he set last time out at the Tyson Invitational. Victor Sewankambo and Miguel Hernandez placed in the top 15, registering jumps of 6.80 meters and 6.69 meters. Jaleesa McWashington sported a top 10 finish in the women's long jump, nabbing a mark of 5.53 at the Summit League Indoor Championships.
- Triple jump - KC earned a silver medal in the women's triple due McKenzie Pearson who jumped a mark of 12.51 meters. Pearson's 12.51 meter mark set a new KC program record in the women's indoor triple jump, surpassing Dee Dee Fortman's 12.49 meter mark set in 2000. Following Pearson for the Roos was Brooke Williams who totaled a triple jump mark of 12.14 meters, giving her a new career best. McWashington and Juliana Lupercio finished with swell marks of 11.63 and 10.77 meters respectively to place 10th and 16th on Saturday. Hunter Ross led the men's triple jump with a mark of 14.57, the sixth best mark in the event. Houston followed that up with a 14.22 meter mark of his own, finishing eighth place in the event.
Kansas City will prepare for the 2025 outdoor track and field season which begins later in the month of March and will conclude with the Summit League Outdoor Championships in May.
