
Plethora of Roos Set New Personal Peaks at Jayhawk Spring Fling

Houston, Hernandez, Carr, Anderson, Rivera all record career-best times and marks in Lawrence
LAWRENCE, KAN. - Kansas City Track & Field started the 2025 outdoor campaign off strong at the Jayhawk Spring Fling as four athletes set new career-best marks across a variety of events Saturday afternoon.
Nahshon Houston delivered a gem in the 200-meter dash, running a time of 22.12 seconds to best his prior career-high performance. Miguel Hernandez channeled a new career-best outing in the long jump with a mark of 6.91 meters to beat his prior best of 6.88 meters. Dontez Carr also totaled a new career-best in the men's long jump with a jump of 6.54 meters.
Likewise, Kyrah Anderson and Alanie Rivera were superb in their receptive races as Anderson ran a 27.44 in the 200m and Rivera dashed a 5:10.95 in the 1500m to both set new personal best times.
Key Results
- Long jump - Brooke Williams earned a top five finish in the women's long jump, coming in with a mark at 5.15 meters which placed fourth overall in the event. Williams' career-best mark in the long jump is 5.23 meters, which she set back at the Bob Timmons Challenge to begin this year's indoor season. On the men's side, Houston led the pack with a 7.13 meter mark to come in second place overall. Hernandez joined Houston in the top five with his career-best mark of 6.91 meters.
- 100-meter hurdles - Eyanagho took first place in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.60 seconds. Last time out in outdoor season, Eyanagho registered a time of 15.73 and her all-time best is 13.20 seconds which she set back at the Arkansas Twilight meet in 2024.
- 200-meter dash - Houston's prior career-best time in the 200m was 22.32 seconds back in 2022. The senior subtracted a fifth of a second off that time to come in fourth place in the 200m with his 22.12 time. On the women's side, Kyrah Anderson ran a 27.44 to knock off her prior best 200m time of 28.16 which she set at the Bob Teel Invitational during the 2025 indoor season.
- 4x400-meter relays - The Roos 4x400 relay squad on the men's side consisted of Houston, Herandez, Channing Rainbolt and Dontez Carr. They completed the relay race with a time of 3:36.57. KC's women's relay group included Williams, Rivera, Eyanagho and Anderson. They finished with a time of 4:21.36 in the 4x400 relay race.
Up next for the Roos is a trip to Fayette, Mo. for the CMU Invite, hosted by the Central Methodist Eagles next Friday and Saturday.
