
Softball Picks Up Saturday Win Over East Texas A&M

The Roos beat the Lions before falling to Marshall
NORMAN, Okla. - Kansas City Softball (1-12) got into the win column in Oklahoma today, picking up a run-rule victory over East Texas A&M before later falling to Marshall. The Roos piled 12 runs on the Lions in the morning opener led by Katie Noble, who went 2-of-3 with three runs scored, and Grace Batdorf, who was 2-for-2 with three RBI. Derika Castillo and Taylor Kvale each tallied a pair of RBI in the Roos' win. Maddy Duvall picked up the win from the pitching circle, moving her to 1-4 on the season.

- Top 2 / 0-0 | Duvall went three up, three down to hold East Texas A&M without a run. She struck out the first batter, forced a pop-up from the second and a line out from the third.
- Bottom 2 / 3-0 | The Roos opened the at-bat with a single from Noble and loaded the bases with back-to-back walks. Batdorf smashed a double to center field that allowed all three runners to score; she then advanced to third on a wild pitch with no outs.
- Bottom 2 / 6-0 | The Lions earned a ground out, but Lauren Parker reached first on a fielder's choice on the following play. A bunt from Gianna Lickel brought in a run and advanced Parker into scoring position. Anderson then singled to shortstop to load the bases again and a double from Castillo brought in two more runs before the Lions could earn the third out of the inning.
- Bottom 3 / 8-3 | Batdorf loaded the bases with a single through the left side. A single from Kvale allowed an unearned run to score and a walk with the bases loaded brought in another run for KC.
- Bottom 4 / 12-3 | Elleana Navarro singled up the left side with the bases loaded to earn another run for the Roos. The Lions loaded the bases again with a walk and allowed KC to score with back-to-back base on balls. East Texas A&M then caught Navarro at home on a fielder's choice, but another walk brought KC to 12 runs.
- Top 5 / 12-3 | Riley Bebb went three up, three down to close the game and secure KC's first win of the young season. Â Â

- Bottom 1 / 0-0 | Bebb opened the game with a scoreless first inning, forcing the Herd into three ground outs.

STATS TO NOTE
- The win over East Texas A&M marks the most runs the Roos have scored against an opponent this season and ties for the second most runs earned by Kansas City under Coach Kiki Stokes O'Connor.Â
- Castillo now leads KC in multi-RBI games with three. She brought in two runs at New Mexico State on Feb. 9, two runs against Drake on Feb. 28, and another two runs in the bottom of the second.
- In the first game, Duvall threw four strikeouts across three innings. She came within one of a career-high five strikeouts which she earned yesterday at Tulsa. The win over East Texas A&M marks the first of her collegiate career.
