
Lanham Cracks Sub-21 Seconds in 200M at Missouri Invitational

Roos nab bevy of top five placements in first of two meets this weekend
COLUMBIA, MO. – Kansas City Track & Field saw yet another record breaking performance in the men's 200-meter dash as Tory Lanham took the Hearnes Center Fieldhouse by storm, besting a 20.93 time at the Missouri Invitational on Friday. The sophomore sprinter netted his first sub-21 second time this indoor season, rewriting his own previous Kansas City 200m school record of 21.01 that he set in Columbia back in January. Lanham's 20.93 time is tied for the 23rd-best in the country and the top time in the Summit League in the men's 200m.
TRACK EVENT HIGHLIGHTS
- 60-meter dash - Stephen Clunis led the charge for the Roos in the 60-meter dash, darting a 6.70 time, giving the junior sprinter his third first place finish of the indoor season. Just behind Clunis was Powell and Brown who both ran 6.78 second times in the 60-meter dash to place third and fourth respectively. Lanham, Victor Sewankambo and Mason Rogers rounded out the top 10 as Kansas City posted six runners in the top 10 at the Missouri Invitational 60m.
- 200-meter dash - Following Lanham's record-breaking heat, the Roos found overwhelming success in the 200m, as four of the top five finishers in the event were Roos. Stephen Brown claimed second place, sporting a career-best 21.27 time which ranks second best in the Summit League and second all-time in KC history. Logan Pratt returned to the 200m in style, placing fourth with a time of 21.63 which ties his previous indoor career best from a season ago. Junior Powell netted himself a top five time in program history, running a 21.66 time to come in fifth in the event as well.
- 400-meter dash - The Roos saw two excellent performances from Jacky Perez-Vela and Maddie Dial in the 400m in Columbia. Perez-Vela recorded a time of 57.57, good for fourth best in the event for the freshman. Dial was right behind her, boasting a time of 57.98 to place sixth in the women's 400-meter dash, good for a new career-best time as a Roo and her first sub-58 second 400m time of the indoor season.
- 800-meter dash - Harper Barlow led the Roos in the 800m as the sophomore registered a time of 2:21.92 to net her sixth place in the event. Alyiah Shirley grabbed 11th place in the 800-meter dash, sporting a time of 2:26.25 at the Missouri Invitational. On the men's side of the coin, Nathaniel Hartman saw a time of 2:01.17 in the 800-meter dash.
FIELD EVENT HIGHLIGHTS
- Long jump - Kansas City saw three of the top five performers in the men's long jump, highlighted by another gem of a jump by Nahshon Houston. The veteran leaper recorded a jump of 7.33 meters, his best of the season and the new top long jump mark in the Summit League this indoor season. Sewankambo registered a long jump mark of 6.92 meters, nearly tying his career-high of 6.94 meters that he set last weekend at the Washburn Open. Miguel Hernandez posted a new career-best jump of 6.84 meters and finished fourth in the event overall. On the women's side, Jaleesa McWashington nabbed second place with a long jump mark of 5.48 meters, her sixth jump over 5.40 meters this season.
- Triple jump - Dontez Carr lept a mark of 13.98 meters in the men's triple jump, finishing second in the event and posting a new career-best in the process. Houston and Hunter Ross finished third and fourth respectively, registering jumps of 13.86 meters and 13.85 meters. Juliana Lupercio was the lone Roo to compete in the triple jump on the women's side, showcasing a jump of 10.57 meters to finish fourth place overall.
- Shot put/high jump - Naomi Eyanagho continued her brilliance in the shot put, throwing a mark of 13.00 meters, highlighting a new career-best and placing second in the event. Lily Bremer made her 2024-25 indoor season debut as the junior high jumper recorded a mark of 1.51 meters to come in sixth place overall in the women's high jump.
Up next for Kansas City is a trip to Ames, IA where the Roos will take part in the Iowa State Classic on Saturday.
