Tierra Trotter dropped 18 points, five assists on 53 FG% in return to hometown state
In the late first quarter, the Roos went shot-for-shot with the Razorbacks as buckets along the interior from El. Bennett and a three pointer from Emani Bennett cut the deficit down to a single point with under a minute to go. Kansas City closed off the first period in dramatic fashion as Alyssa Febres connected on a near-half court heave to beat the game clock buzzer and put the score at 23-22 through the first 10 minutes. The Razorbacks used a convincing second quarter to build up a lead and maintained their edge, taking a multi-possession lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Roos came out with renewed energy in the third quarter, delivering a 9-0 run to open the second half. The crux of the Roos run saw Zaire Harrell get a layup to go over multiple defenders while Trotter and Jamyah Winter splashed three pointers to get Kansas City within single digits. For much of the second half, the Roos stayed within the 5-10 point deficit range and were unable to break out enough to close the gap for good.Â
In the fourth quarter, fast break buckets from Trotter and Harrell helped the Roos make it a 68-74 ball game with 6:46 to play. From that point on, the Razorbacks went on a 18-9 run to close the game out. The Razorbacks knocked down key shots and converted from the free-throw line, stretching the lead too far for the Roos to keep up. The Roos were within a point of the Razorbacks in quarters one and four and outscored Arkansas 22-19 in the third.
Kansas City once again put together another strong outing on offense on the road, shooting 50% from the field (32-64) and 50% from three point range (8-16), making it the third time the Roos have shot 50% or higher overall and from distance in a single game this season and the seventh time done so in the Jackson-Durrett era. Kansas City was slightly eclipsed in the rebounding department at 36-40 but grabbed 13 offensive rebounds, led by four each from El. Bennett and Funmi Amode.Â
The Roos comitted 26 turnovers, the most in a game this season. KC forced Arkansas into 21 turnovers, slightly surpassing their Summit-leading mark of 20 turnovers forced per game. El. Bennett's 18 points came on 8-11 shooting from the field and six rebounds while Trotter's 18 was coupled with five assists and 8-15 shooting and a pair of three balls. Harrell finished with 10 rebounds, eight points and seven assists. Kansas City played 13 players against Arkansas, their most against a Division I opponent this season.Â
Kansas City returns home to take on Haskell at 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon from the Swinney Center.Â
