Olivia Platt and Riley Porter were each named First Team All-Summit
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Kansas City Women's Soccer has put together its best season since re-joining the Summit League in 2020, putting together a 3-3-2 record in league play and claiming the #5 seed heading into the conference tournament. The squad's efforts have been recognized on the end-of-season awards lists, with four Kansas City players earning all-league designations. Olivia Platt and Riley Porter were each named First Team All-League, while Ashley Koch and Delfina Zolesio Fernandez Blanco nabbed spots on the Honorable Mention team. In addition, Porter was named to the league's All-Newcomer team.
Platt has made her fourth season as a Roo her best one yet. The redshirt junior is tied for the league lead in goals since the beginning of conference play with four. She has also tallied a pair of assists and her 10 total points stands alone atop the Summit in conference competition. Platt has stepped up in big moments, scoring her first-career brace in the Roos' win at North Dakota State and going for a late-game equalizer against South Dakota State. Platt has notched at least one point in each of the Roos' last five games, playing the full 90 minutes in three of the last four.
Porter has turned it on down the stretch to earn First Team All-League status. The Kansas City native was limited by injury to begin the year, but has been a starter in four-straight games for the Roos. She has tallied four goals in Kansas City's last five games, tying with Platt for the most in Summit League play and ranking second in points with nine. Porter has gone for two game-winners against Summit League opponents, one in the 62nd minute against St. Thomas and another in the 81st minute against North Dakota. She has gone for at least one point in the last five games, coinciding with a 3-1-1 stretch for KC.
Koch has seen her emphasis switch from the beginning of the season. After scoring five goals in non-conference play and giving KC their lone score in the league-opener against Oral Roberts, she has been keyed on by opponents. This has not stopped her ability to affect the game, logging four assists against Summit League opponents. Since the start of Summit League play, Koch is tied for second in total assists, including two in the Roos' win over St. Thomas and another in the win at North Dakota.Â
Zolesio has been Kansas City's biggest offensive threat throughout the year, leading the Summit League in goals and points this season. She stands alone as the only player in the league to reach double-digit goals and 20-plus points, ranking top-10 in program history in both categories. Since the start of league play, she has maintained her production, ranking top-10 in the league in shots, shots on goal, goals, and points. She scored three goals and eight points in league competition, both of which are tied for third-most in the Summit.
Kansas City begins its Summit League run at #4 South Dakota on Sunday, kicking off at 1 p.m. The Roos and Coyotes played to a draw in their regular season meeting thanks to a 65th minute equalizer from Zolesio.
