
Belmont Takes Second at Platte River Rumble

Mariah Belmont’s 21:56.38 time in the women’s 6k ranked second-best among over 60 runners
ASHLAND, NEB. – Kansas City Cross Country saw a well rounded effort across the board at the Platte River Rumble Friday afternoon. Mariah Belmont served as the Roos headline performance, finishing the women's 6k with a time of 21:56.38 to finish in second overall and first among attached runners. Belmont started in fourth place for the first leg of the run before vaulting herself up to first for the middle portion of the race and through the 5k mark.
For the second race in a row, Belmont comes in as the Roos top runner on the women's side. Last time out, the sophomore from Macomb, Mich. ran a career-best 21:45.3 to place top 50 at the Gans Creek Classic back in late-September. Kansas City finished fifth out of seven teams in the women's 6k with 217 points, slotting ahead of Buena Vista and Midland. Elsewhere, Madelyn Russell ran a time of 24:00.32 to place 26th and Alanie Rivera notched a time of 24:17.13 to finish in 32nd place.
On the men's side, Dalton Heller totaled a team-best 8k time of 26:29.8 to come in 17th place overall. The Roos also received three other top 30 finishes with M.J. Foster, Eli Block and Luke Swarts all making a difference for Kansas City. The men's 8k saw Kansas City finish in third place out of eight as a team and total 104 points, finishing ahead of Nebraska-Kearney, Midland, Buena Vista, Iowa Western CC and Mount Marty.
