Roos Drop Summit League Opener to Denver

Maddie Sibbing made eight saves in her Summit League debut
KANSAS CITY - Kansas City Women's Soccer (6-2-3, 0-1-0 Summit) made adjustments and battled throughout its Summit League-opening match up against Denver (7-4-0, 1-0-0 Summit) this evening, but the Pioneers had too much firepower in a 3-1 decision. Denver came out strong in the first half, taking a lead early and dominating possession. The Roos were able to find an equalizing goal from Kayda Kamolz early in the second half, but the Pios finished the game with two unanswered goals for the win.
KEY MOMENTS | HIGHLIGHTS
9' / 0-0 | Denver took its first shot of the night from nearly 30 yards out, placing it on target and forcing Maddie Sibbing to make a spectacular punch-save.
25' / 0-1 | The Pioneers got on the board first as Addisyn Hyrup sent a long through ball to Megan Murray, who got behind the back line and put the ball into the back of the net.
39' / 0-1 | Denver was loose in the attack with a 1-on-1 to extend its lead, but Sibbing took advantage of a heavy touch, leaping on the ball and keeping the score where it was.
52' / 1-1 | Madison Page made a dangerous run in the counter attack and took a shot that forced DU's keeper to make a diving save. Kamolz was there to leap on the rebound, equalizing the score.
64' / 1-2 | The Pioneers went back ahead midway through the half as a scrum in the box brought Sibbing off her line. Jadyn Goodrich found control of the ball and Ella Frost finished for the game-winner. Denver secured the game in the 78th minute with another goal.
STATS TO NOTE
Kansas City scored its first goal against the Pioneers since Oct. 15, 2021. It was just the second goal against the Pios in program history.
Kamolz's goal was her first of the season and her third in 65 career appearances. Her other two goals came during the 2023 campaign.
Denver entered tonight's contest averaging 6.2 corner kicks per game. The Pioneers attempted 13 corners tonight, the second-most by a KC opponent.
