Benassi nets a pair of goals to guide Kansas City over Emporia State
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kansas City Women's Soccer (1-0-2) hosted its first match on home turf Thursday evening, defeating Emporia State in an emphatic 2-0 victory. Both Roo goals were scored by Adriana Benassi in Kansas City's first win of the season.

- 6' / 1-0 | Benassi converted on the Roos' first scoring chance of the game, poking the ball past the Hornets' keeper off an assist from Lily Stedman.
- 13' / 1-0 | The Roos amassed a bounty of opportunities in this stretch with four throw ins, a corner kick and two shots on goal but none were able to convert.
- 66' / 1-0 | Ashley Koch nearly netted her second goal of the season after breaking free from defenders and planting a bullet on target, but the shot was saved by Hornets keeper Mackenzie Goen.
- 80' / 2-0 | The Roos provided a late match dagger and scored off a brilliant attack that included Emery Ruliffson surging the ball forward and Brianna Castleberry setting up Benassi for her second goal of the evening.
- This is the first home opening shutout win for Kansas City since 2017, when the Roos shutout Illinois-Chicago, 2-0, on August 25, 2017.
- Riley Moore guided Kansas City to its second shutout of the season in three games played, the first was against No. 12 Saint Louis with Maddie Sibbing in goal.
- Benassi is the first woman to score multiple goals in a game for the Roos since Brianna Castleberry did it last year in Kansas City's 5-2 loss to Oral Roberts on October 1, 2023.
- Kansas City notched 19 shots, seven of which were on goal, the most of the young season. The Roos registered 13 total shots in their first two contests.
