Kansas City Notches Second Result of the Season at Marquette

Ashley Koch earned her first goal as a Roo in the draw
MILWAUKEE, Wis. — Kansas City Women's Soccer (0-0-2) played an offensive match at Marquette (0-1-1) leading for most of the game, but ultimately drawing 1-1 with the Golden Eagles. The Roos had an explosive first half earning four corner kicks and seven shots, three of which landed on frame. A laser to the back corner from Ashley Koch put Kansas City on the board in the 41st minute.
Following halftime, Marquette entered the game with a new-found momentum earning eight corner kicks and holding KC to three shots. On their eighth corner kick attempt of the half, the Golden Eagles found the back of the net, drawing the game even in the 90th minute. Kansas City had one possession to respond but was unable to fire off a shot. Sydney Maddox, Kayda Kamolz and Koch all documented shots on goal in the draw.

Kansas City hosts Emporia State in its home opener Thursday at 6 p.m.

- 34' / 0 – 0 | Emery Ruliffson took a corner kick for the Roos, placing it at the top of the six-yard box. Madison Page was able to get her head on the ball, but her shot went wide of the goal.
- 41' / 1 – 0 | Battling at center field, Maryam El-Demerdash won the ball away from two Golden Eagles. She passed the ball to Page who found Koch at the top of the box. Koch maneuvered around three Marquette defenders and found the back left corner earning Kansas City's first goal of the season and claiming the lead.
- 90' / 1-1 | The Golden Eagles evened the score with a header goal off their tenth corner kick.
- Kansas City's back-to-back results against No. 12 Saint Louis and Marquette mark its first two-game season-opening stretch without a loss since Smith took over as Head Coach in 2020.
- The Roos fired off a season-high ten shots, landing four on frame. Brianna Castleberry and Ruliffson led Kansas City in shots with two each.
- Sophia Limongi, Riley Moore and Madelyn Muhr all played a full 90 minutes. Limongi and Muhr each played the full 72 minutes against Saint Louis in the game that was shortened due to weather.
- Koch's goal marks the second of her collegiate career and her first goal on the Kansas City squad.
