Mahgoub Crown 800m Champ at Summit League Indoor Championships

Roos walk away from The Summit League Championships with eight top-five finishes
FARGO, ND. - The Kansas City Track and Field team concluded their indoor season at the Summit League Championships in Fargo, North Dakota. Following the two-day competition, the women's team finished with a team score of 25 points, securing fifth place, while the men secured seventh place with a total of 43 points.
On the first day of the championships, Kansas City delivered strong performances. Jaleesa McWashington secured a medal in the women's long jump, marking a season's best leap of 5.83m (19-01.50) which earned her the Bronze. Teresa Thomas advanced to the finals in the women's 400m after clocking 56.58 seconds, standing as the sole Roo to make it to the Women's 400m final. Thomas concluded the championship as the fourth-fastest competitor in the Summit League that season. McKenzie Pearson lived up to expectations as a top contender, delivering a notable performance with a distance of 12.35m (40-06.25) in the long jump, earning her the silver and setting a new lifetime best.
In the men's 60m, Kelian Powell and Victor Sewankambo showcased solid performances. Powell secured an automatic qualifier by crossing the line in 6.86 seconds, while Sewankambo closely followed with a time of 6.89 seconds, securing a spot in the finals. Powell clinched the podium on Saturday afternoon with a smooth run of 6.79 seconds, earning him the Bronze, while Sewankambo finished in eighth place.
Abdelrahim Mahgoub emerged as a standout performer, dominating the 800m event. Mahgoub navigated through two rounds of the 800m, securing a gold medal. He cruised through the prelims, finishing third in the heats and securing an automatic spot in the finals. Mahgoub claimed the 800m crown with a time of 1:53.42, fending off the Summit League leader. With eight top-five finishes, the Roos concluded their indoor season and looked forward to resuming competitions in March.
