Starting Five
- Kansas City Men's Basketball is back home after a two-game road stand for a meeting with South Dakota State on Thursday, the Roos' lone game this week. It will be Kansas City's first game after the Chiefs' big victory, the Roos are 1-2 all-time in their first game following a Chiefs Super Bowl win, with the lone win coming in 1970.
- Kansas City has found its stride shooting from the field, going above 50% in back-to-back games for the Feb. 17-19, 2022, two games which also came against North Dakota and North Dakota State. Prior to the past two games, Kansas City had eclipsed 50% field goal shooting just twice on the season. The Roos are now 3-1 on the year when reaching that mark.
- The Roos logged 11 steals in the most recent win over North Dakota, led by three each from Babacar Diallo and Allen Mukeba. Diallo is the only Roo to log multiple three-steal games this season, and KC is 2-1 when he does so. It marked the third time that Kansas City has logged double-digit steals this season, the first time since the first two games of the season.
- Mukeba has stepped up in recent games, showing an efficiency from the field that the Roos have not seen much this season. He went 4-of-5 from the field in each of the past two games, averaging just 12.5 minutes. He is the only Roo this season to shoot above 75% from the field (min. 5 FGA) in multiple games this year.
- The rise of Jayson Petty continues for Kansas City as he led the team with 17 points on 4-of-6 three-point shooting in the recent win over North Dakota. In the first 21 games of the year, he averaged 3.5 points. In the past five games, he has averaged 14.2 points per contest.
South Dakota State Notes
- For the second-straight game, Kansas City will be tasked with taking on a team that stands alone atop the Summit League standings.
- SDSU has won two-straight games with wins over South Dakota and Oral Roberts.
- The Roos will look for revenge for the Jan. 25 meeting that saw the Jackrabbits use a 20-point run to create space in the first half.
- Kansas City will look to take down SDSU for the first time since Nov. 28, 2015.
- The Jackrabbits have one of the best field goal percentage defenses in the country, holding opponents to a Summit-leading 42.0% mark from the field.
- Summit League Preseason Player of the Year Zeke Mayo leads South Dakota State, averaging 18.7 points per game.
