Abdelrahim Mahgoub Regains Summit League Lead in 800-Meter
PITTSBURG, KS. -Â Kansas City Track and Field team competed in the Gorilla Classic, securing three top-five finishes over the two-day meet.
Senior Abdelrahim Mahgoub secured a second-place finish in the men's 800 meters with a time of 1:50.88, surpassing the Summit League leader's time of 1:51.39. He regained the first-place ranking after a week. Junior Joan Rocha-Navarro set a personal record in the men's mile, clocking a time of 4:10.21, improving upon his previous best of 4:12.94 from two weeks prior. Rocha-Navarro jumped seven spots in the league rankings, claiming the fifth position, a significant improvement from last week.
In the men's 60-meter prelims, the Roos secured two spots with Kenechukwu Okpareke running 6.73 and Junior Powell running 6.85, earning automatic qualification into the finals. Okpareke finished fourth with a time of 6.76, while Powell secured eighth place with a time of 6.83. Jaleesa McWashington finished sixth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.71, currently holding the ninth position in the Summit League rankings.
To conclude the two-day meet, McKenzie Pearson leaped her way to a third-place finish, claiming the Summit League lead with a jump of 12.28m. The conclusion of the 9th annual Gorilla Classic marks the beginning of a two-week countdown until the Summit League Indoor Championship.
