Wednesday’s game marks the first meeting between the programs in 30 years
THE STARTERS
- The Roos will look to keep their momentum going against Sacramento State after picking up their second home win on the season on Saturday. Kansas City Women's Basketball defeated UT Dallas in dominant fashion 94-60.Â
- In its win over UT Dallas, Kansas City was led by sophomore Emani Bennett for the sixth consecutive game. Em. Bennett scored a team-leading 15 points and brought down another seven rebounds. She has reached double-digits in the past six games and is averaging a team-leading 6.0 rebounds per game.Â
- Kansas City Women's basketball had five players reach double-digits in its win over the comments. Emani Bennett (15), Chloe Dallas (14), Ana Oliveira Dias (12), Elauni Bennett and Alayna Contreras mark the first time five Roos have reached double-digits since Dec. 18, 2023, when five Roos did so against Kansas Christian.Â
- Wednesday's game marks Kansas City's first of the Big Sky-Summit Challenge. Last year, the Roos went 2-0 in the Challenge defeating Portland State, 75-56, in Kansas City and beating Weber State 61-51 in Ogden, Utah.Â
- After facing the Hornets in Sacramento, the Roos return to Kansas City, hosting Idaho State in the Swinney Center on December 7. That game will mark the first meeting between the two programs.Â
SCOUTING SACRAMENTO STATE
- The Hornets enter the game hot off a near 40-point victory against Wagner in the FIU Thanksgiving Tournament. Sacramento State defeated Wagner 73-34 and was led by a 20-point performance from Katie Peneueta.Â
- Wednesday's game marks the first meeting between Kansas City and Sacramento State in over 30 years. The two first played Feb. 12, 1993, in Sacramento but their most 'recent' meeting came Dec. 3, 1994, in New Orleans, La. with the Hornets defeating the Roos 79-49.Â
- Sacramento State travels to Omaha for its next game of the Big Sky-Summit Challenge. The Mavericks are just one spot above the Roos in the Summit League standings with a 4-4 record. Kansas City and Omaha do not face off until Jan. 25 in Omaha.Â
- Junior Benthe Versteeg has been a key starter for the Hornets, averaging 5.4 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game.Â
