Kansas City Notes
Kansas City Notes
- For the first time in program history, Kansas City Men's Soccer is in the NCAA Round of 16 following a thrilling 2-1 win over Missouri State that saw the Roos score both of their goals in the second half.
- The Roos have now scored four goals in the first two rounds of play from four different goal scorers - none of whom were among the squad's top three goal-scorers in the regular season. On the year, Kansas City has had 19 different players score a goal and every outfield player that has played at least 400 minutes has scored a goal.
- Kansas City's high-octane offense is a perfect mixture of skilled and electric - skelectric, if you will. The Roos rank top-five in the NCAA in scoring offense (2.57; 4th), assists per game (2.71; 5th) and points per game (7.86; 3rd). Since the start of November, KC has scored at least two goals in every game.
- Summit League Offensive Player of the Year Elie Kisoka has scored a point in all three of the Roos' postseason contests. After scoring the 90th minute game-winner in the Summit League Championship against Denver, he has assisted in each of KC's NCAA Tournament games. His 32 total points are the eighth-most in the nation.
- Of the five unseeded teams remaining in the championship, Kansas City is the lone squad to have won both of its games in a road environment. This is nothing new to the Roos, who have collected a program record nine road wins this season.
- Five players have played all 180 minutes of NCAA Championship soccer for the Roos: Brandon McGaugh, Mathias Baucher, Brevyn Cole, Bryson Gosch and Fernando Somolinos Bravo.
- McGaugh has faced 32 shots in the tournament, making 10 saves and allowing just one goal.
Pittsburgh Notes
- Pittsburgh is the second overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, qualifying to the Round of 16 after a 1-0 win over Cornell despite playing with 10 men for a majority of the match.
- The Panthers entered the NCAAs having lost four of their last six matches but picked up the #2 seed as the only team in the nation with six-plus Quad 1 wins.
- Pitt's goal-scoring efforts are led by Luis Sahmkow with nine scores on the year. Guilherme Feitosa leads the team with nine assists.
- The Roos and Panthers have never played each other before.
- Both squads played Denver this year with the Roos going 2-1 across three meetings and Pitt earning a shutout win on Oct. 7.
