A look back on the runnin’ Roos best performances in their latest campaign
The 2024 season for Kansas City Cross Country was marked with plenty of progression and positive strides forward in year six of the Beanud Shirley era. The Roos competed in four meets across four different states, including Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and South Dakota. The Roos finished with two top five team finishes on the season, coming in fourth place as a team in both the Bob Timmons Classic and the Platte River Rumble.Â
"As you go into a season you want to see progression from the previous one," HC Benaud Shirley said in an interview with KC Athletics. "We had some good things happen and some improvements and progression."Â

Individual StandoutsÂ
The Roos top men's performer in 2024 was Kaleb Glazier. The freshman put together a fantastic first season in blue and yellow, posting a team-high time on the men's side in three of the Roos four meets this season.Â
Most notably, Glazier came in third place overall in the Platte River Rumble 8k with a time of 25:41.22, the top time of any Summit League participant in the race. Glazier season-best performance came in Columbia, Mo. at the Gans Creek Classic. The Wichita, Kan. native posted a time of 25:33.6, the best on the team.Â
"A positive was Kaleb Glazier, a freshman who ran well in a couple meets. It was finally good to see somebody on the men's team up front in a race, that was pretty exciting." Shirley said.Â
On the women's side, Maggie Boley was the most consistent Roos runner, posting a team-best time in the Bob Timmons Classic, Platte River Rumble and at the Summit League Championships.Â
Boley finished inside the top 30 in two races this season and finished in the top 25 with a 5k time of 20:16.4 in Lawrence, Kan. back in late August. The Blue Springs, Mo. native's best 6k time came at the Gans Creek Classic where she recorded a time of 23:21.3 to lead the way for Kansas City.Â
"For us, it's about confidence, distance running is complex and simple at the same time. We just have to run more. We will have to get them up to 80-90 miles a week but also prioritize the health of our student athletes," Shirley said. "We will have a better season next year."
