The Roos out-shot the Coyotes 22-12 in the loss
VERMILLION, S.D. — Kansas City Women's Soccer (6-5-3, 0-4) faced South Dakota (3-6-3,1-1-1) in an offensive match with KC breaking a two-game scoring drought but ultimately falling to the Coyotes, 4-2. Both Caijah Anderson and Kayda Kamolz found the back of the net for the Blue and Gold. Kamolz led the Roos in shots with five in her 78 minutes of play. The two goals scored today mark the most Kansas City has earned in a conference game this season.
KEY MOMENTS | HIGHLIGHTS
The Roos will have time to recover with a bye on Thursday. Kansas City then hosts North Dakota (4-5-4, 0-1-2) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
KEY MOMENTS | HIGHLIGHTS
- 16' / 1 – 0 | The Roos worked to clear a South Dakota possession in the box, but Izzy Quintavalle got a foot on the clearance knocking it into the top right corner just out of Moore's reach.
- 33' / 1 – 1 | Kansas City picked up a foul nearly a foot outside the 18-yard box. Anderson took the free kick finding the top right corner without hesitation and retying the game.
- 51' / 1 – 2 | Madison Page knocked one to the USD keeper's far side just right of the goal. Kamolz ran in on the play immediately shooting and giving KC its only advantage of the game. South Dakota responded in 52nd minute to retie the game.
- 80' / 4 – 2 | South Dakota maintained possession of the ball with Janaina Zanin launching a shot from well outside the 18-yard box. Zanin's shot was good allowing USD to extend its lead to two and secure the win.
- Anderson picked up her first goal of the season, making her KC's 11th unique scorer. 11 is the most individual scorers Kansas City has had since 2020 when the Roos finished the season with 11. The most unique goal scorers in program history is 14 which the Roos earned during the 2014 season.
- Kamolz's goal makes her the first Roo to score in multiple conference games this season. Both of Kamolz's conference goals have been assisted by Page, the first of which she earned on Sep. 26 against Denver.
- Anderson's goal marks the fourth of her career and third against South Dakota. Her only goal against another opponent came in her first year against Omaha on March 21, 2021. Anderson scored on Oct. 14, 2022, in the 1-0 over the Coyotes and again on Oct. 19, 2023, in the 2-0 win.
The Roos will have time to recover with a bye on Thursday. Kansas City then hosts North Dakota (4-5-4, 0-1-2) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
