Roos and Fighting Hawks Face-Off Sunday in KC’s Penultimate Home Game
10/12/2024 2:20:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Kansas City Women’s Soccer kicks off against UND at 1 p.m.
Kansas City Notes
- It will be critical for Kansas City to strike first against the Fighting Hawks. The Roos are 6-0-1 when they score first and have earned four shutout wins when they do so. When Kansas City allows opponents to score first its record drops to 0-5. The Roos have yet to find the back of the net first in league play.
- Kayda Kamolz notched her second goal of the season to momentarily give Kansas City the lead against South Dakota. She leads the team in goals during conference play with two and leads the team overall in assists with five. Kamolz currently ranks third in the Summit for assists with five across 14 games. She also ranks 53rd in the nation for total assists.
- Sunday's match will mark the second meeting between the Fighting Hawks and the Roos in Kansas City. The past two matches have been ties with a scoreless draw in Grand Forks in 2023 and a 1-1 draw in Kansas City in 2022. The game will give the Roos a chance to earn their first result of conference.
- Maddie Sibbing made her seventh career start last week against South Dakota State. Allowing just one goal from an SDSU squad averaging 2.36 goals per game. Sibbing leads Kansas City goalkeepers in saves with 38 this season, more than four times more saves than other KC keepers combined.
- Freshmen Emery Ruliffson and Kinsley Smith have started in all four conference games. The two have combined for 713 minutes of league play already this season. Adriana Benassi, Maryam El-Demerdash and Breckynn Pugh have also made appearances in all four conference games.
North Dakota Notes
- North Dakota enters the match, like the Roos, looking to pick up its first win of conference play. The Fighting Hawks faced Omaha on Thursday falling, 1-0 with the Mavericks out-shooting the Fighting Hawks 13-9.
- UND has notched two results in conference play against Oral Roberts and Denver. Their two points place them 7th in the Summit just behind a South Dakota squad with five points.
- Freshman goalkeeper Grace Miller has been a key piece for the Fighting Hawks, making starts in all but one game. She ranks second in the league for saves per game, averaging 4.54 saves.
- Kaylie Fowler has been another clutch player for North Dakota, finding the back of the net in three games. Each of Fowler's goals have been game-winners, ranking her third in the Summit with three game-winning goals across 13 games. Each of her goals came prior to conference play against Minnesota Crookston, Alabama State and Jamestown.
