Kansas City Notes
Kansas City Notes
- Kansas City is back home for the first time since the start of Summit League play on Saturday for a meeting with nationally-ranked Denver. In the past five years, Kansas City holds a 4-0-1 record in its league home openers.
- Denver enters the match up ranked No. 1 in the Top Drawer Soccer poll and No. 3 in the United Soccer Coaches poll. Since Head Coach Ryan Pore took over, Kansas City has drawn with nationally-ranked teams four times but is still seeking its first win against a top-25 team. The last time the Roos got a win over a ranked team was a 4-3 win over No. 19 Drake on Sep. 30, 2008.
- Goalkeeper Brandon McGaugh has played every minute in goal for the Roos, averaging 3.2 saves per game and posting three shutouts. He is one clean sheet away from tying the fifth-most single-season shutouts in program history. The most recent to hit that mark was Cooper Clark in 2022.
- Elie Kisoka continues to have an outstanding season from the offensive side, totaling seven goals, four assists and 18 total points. He is closing in on a spot in the record books, as one more goal, two more points and two more assists would earn him a spot in the single-season top-10 in each of those categories.
- Jeremy Francou scored the equalizing goal in the draw against Omaha, coming in the 81st minute. It was Francou's second goal of the year, making him the fifth KC player with multiple goals this season.
Denver NotesÂ
- The Pioneers are 7-1-4 entering Saturday's match up, but are coming off their first loss of the season at United Soccer Coaches No. 1 Pittsburgh.
- Denver holds a 2-0-0 mark in Summit League play, including a 5-0 drubbing of St. Thomas last weekend.
- Sam Bassett is the Pioneers' leading scorer with six goals and eight assists. He is tied with teammate Ian Smith for the Summit League lead in assists.
- The last time these teams met was in the 2023 Summit League Semifinals, a 3-3 draw that saw Kansas City advance on penalty kicks. The Roos became the first team to eliminate Denver in the semifinal round in Summit League history.
