Men's Basketball Remains at Home to Take on North Dakota
1/12/2024 4:40:00 PM | Men's Basketball
The Roos and Fighting Hawks will play tomorrow at 2 p.m.
- Kansas City Men's Basketball is back in action on Saturday afternoon, taking on North Dakota in a contest that was moved from 7 p.m. to 2 p.m. due to the Chiefs' Wildcard game. The last time the Roos played on the same day as a Chiefs playoff game was on Jan. 21 of last year, when the Roos took down NDSU and the Chiefs beat Jacksonville. All-time, KC holds a 6-5 record when playing on the same day as the Chiefs played a postseason game.
- Jamar Brown has notched five double-doubles on the year, tied for the most by a Roo since the 2010-11 season when Spencer Johnson went for eight. Brown is chasing Carlton Aaron's program record of 11 double-doubles, accomplished in 2004-05.
- The Roos are coming off a double-overtime loss to North Dakota State, one in which they were beat by a 40-37 margin on the boards and were held to just nine offensive rebounds, their fewest since Nov. 26 against Middle Tennessee State. The loss dropped the Roos to 0-4 on the year when losing the rebounding battle.
- Kansas City was cautious with the ball against the Bison, committing just 10 turnovers and allowing NDSU to grab just one steal on the night. According to Sports Reference, it is the first time a KC opponent has had one-or-fewer steals since a game against North Dakota on Feb. 17, 2022.
- The Roos surpassed the 90-point mark against the Bison, the second time they have done so this season. It was Kansas City's first loss when scoring over 90 points since a 110-104 triple OT loss to Incarnate Word on Dec. 20, 2014.
North Dakota Notes
- North Dakota is still looking for its first win of Summit League play, currently sitting at the bottom of the league at 0-3. The Fighting Hawks' last win came on Dec. 16, a 79-62 decision over Utah Tech.
- Kansas City holds a 7-4 advantage in the all-time series against UND, including a 3-2 record in games played at the Swinney Center.
- The Fighting Hawks took both of the meetings between the two sides last season, including a 77-60 win on Jan. 19 that saw UND knock down 18 three-pointers, setting an all-time record by a Kansas City opponent.
- North Dakota likes to shoot the three once again this season, averaging 26.8 attempts per game to lead the Summit and rank 32nd in the nation. The Fighting Hawks three-point percentage of 30.2% ranks eighth in the Summit.
- B.J. Omot and Treysen Eaglestaff lead UND in scoring, averaging 15.6 and 14.5 points, respectively. Eaglestaff leads the league in threes per game at 2.78.
