Kansas City Splits with North Dakota on First Day of Weekend Series

The Roos locked in a dominant win in game one but were unable to comeback in game two
KANSAS CITY, Mo- Kansas City (6-31, 1-7) split a doubleheader this afternoon against North Dakota (5-32, 2-5). Game one was an offensive onslaught by the Roos, who tallied nine runs on eight hits and eight walks to win 9-0. In game two North Dakota took an early five-run lead but the Roos came back to make it a one-run game heading into the seventh inning. North Dakota hit a three-run home run to give them an 8-4 win.

The Roos will play the series finale against North Dakota tomorrow at 10 a.m.

GAME 1 KEY MOMENTSÂ
- Bottom 2 / 3-0 | The Roos loaded the bases with no outs and Kiki McCrea shot a single into right to score a pair. Katherine Karnatz scored on a wild pitch to tally on another towards the Roos lead.
- Bottom 3 / 4-0 | The Roos loaded the bases for the second straight inning, tacking on another run on a fielder's choice.
- Bottom 5 / 9-0 | Kansas City loaded the bases for the fourth consecutive inning and Ally Vonfeldt punched a single into left to bring a run in. Later in the inning, Lexi Smith tripled to clear the bases and walk it off for the Roos.
- Top 2 / 0-3 | North Dakota tacked a run in the first and two more in the top of the second to take an early lead.
- Bottom 3 / 2-5 | McCrea led the inning off with a double and Amelia Fitzgerald singled her in to get the Roos on the board. Vonfeldt followed up with an RBI to bring the Roos back within three.
- Bottom 6 / 4-5 | Karnatz singled home a run, and then Marina Karnes scored on an error to edge closer.
- Kansas City's victory in game one marked its first conference win of the season.
- Fitzgerald picked up hits in both games today, extending her hit streak to seven consecutive games.
- The nine runs scored in game one along with the win for Kansas City marked the most runs scored for the Roos in a winning game this season.
