The Roos fell to Lamar, then defeated UT Arlington in extra innings
ARLINGTON, Texas - Kansas City Softball (4-11) snapped a six-game losing streak and got back into the win column on Friday afternoon as the Roos defeated UT Arlington in dramatic fashion in nine innings, 5-4. This came after KC had a comeback attempt fall just short earlier in the day, falling to Lamar, 5-4.
Katherine Karnatz had a good day at the plate, reaching base three times with a run and an RBI against Lamar, then tallying another RBI in the win over UTA. Katie Noble got her first-career win as a collegiate pitcher, tossing 8.2 innings, allowing just five hits and two earned runs.
KEY MOMENTS VS. LAMAR
- Bot. 1 / 1-3 | After Lamar got out to a quick start, scoring three runs in the top of the first, the Roos got on the scoreboard as Sydney Nichols batted in Karnatz for a run.
- Bot. 3 / 3-5 | The Roos loaded up the bases with two outs when Noble stepped up to the plate, sending a shot to third base and causing an error by Lamar. Ally Vonfeldt and Lexy Smith both came around to score, bringing KC within two.
- Bot. 4 / 4-5 | After Marina Karnes drew a walk and Lauren Parker came in as a pinch runner, Karnatz ripped a triple to right center, drawing KC within a run.
- Top 7 / 4-5 | Bailey Brumley went 1-2-3 in three-straight innings to end the game, but the Roos were unable to draw any closer at the plate.
STATS TO NOTE VS. LAMAR
- Brumley went for five innings from the pitcher's circle, allowing zero earned runs. That is a career-long without allowing a run, and her four strikeouts were a career-high.
- The Roos drew six walks on the game, their most in a loss this season.
- Kansas City committed three errors on the game, and all five of Lamar's runs were unearned.
KEY MOMENTS VS. UTA
- Bot. 1 / 0-0 | Noble set the tone early from the pitcher's circle, retiring each of the first three batters and not allowing any contact out of the infield.
- Top 5 / 4-1 | Arlington took the initial lead, but Espy Daniels, Karnes and Nichols loaded the bases for KC. Gaby LaFavor went for a pinch hit double, scoring all three, and Karnatz hit a sacrifice fly to score LaFavor.
- Bot. 7 / 4-4 | UTA tied the game up in the sixth, and after the Roos were unable to take advantage of two runners in the top of the seventh, Noble went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the inning and forced extras.
- Top 9 / 5-4 | Vonfeldt was placed on second as the extra innings courtesy runner, and advanced on a sacrifice by Noble. Lexy Smith hit a sac fly to left field to score Vonfeldt and the Roos went unscathed in the bottom of the inning to win.
STATS TO NOTE VS. UTA
- Noble went for 8.2 innings in the win after pitching a combined 7.2 innings in her first three collegiate appearances.
- LaFavor's pinch hit RBI double in the fifth inning was the first hit and the first three runs batted in of her collegiate career. She was the only Roo to go for an extra base hit in the game.
- Nichols went for three hits in the game, her second time reaching that mark this season and her fifth multi-hit game of the year.
