
Ugass Posts Double-Double in Loss to St. Thomas

Kansas City was unable to overcome the Tommies' paint attack
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After a back-and-forth first half, Kansas City Women's Basketball (7-18, 3-11 Summit) lost its spark against St. Thomas (10-15, 5-10 Summit), falling in an 80-57 game. Transition defense and points in the paint were both problems for Kansas City this afternoon. The Roos struggled inside, only scoring 24 points compared to St. Thomas' 52 points in the paint.
The Roos were in the game, finding themselves down only six points as the second quarter came to a close. Shortly after, St. Thomas would extend its lead, going on an 18-3 run in the second half. Kansas City struggled, shooting only 34.5% from the field as St. Thomas shot a 52.3% clip.
Manna Mensah led the Roos playing the entire 40 minutes, scoring 22 points. Mensah was supported by a strong performance from Tamia Ugass's second-career double-double, putting up 14 points and 14 rebounds on the afternoon.

- 2Q – 6:20 / 18-22 | Mensah made space with the dribble off the offensive rebound for an open jump shot.
- 2Q – 0:34 / 26-30 | Ugass fought for three clutch buckets to end the second quarter. She scored the last six points of the half for the Roos.
- 3Q – 8:00 / 28-34 | Rain Green pushed the tempo, driving the lane for a layup to open up scoring for the Roos in the quarter.
- 3Q – 3:30 / 35-43 | Mensah pulled up from downtown for the three-pointer to snap a St. Thomas 9-3 scoring run. A couple plays later, Mensah attacked on a second-chance opportunity and made the and-one layup.
- 4Q – 6:38 / 45-63 | Mensah made the open jumper off an assist from Green. This basket stopped a St. Thomas 18-3 run.
- 4Q – 5:12 / 49-66 | Ugass made a powerful post move to get the open hook shot off the Mensah assist.
STATS TO NOTE
- Mensah and Ugass led the Roos in scoring, combining for 22-of-26 first half points.
- The Roos went into halftime with three players having two fouls (M. Mullens, A. Murphy, Z. Harrell). No players fouled out for Kansas City.
- KC gave up 16 turnovers allowing St. Thomas to score 23 points off turnovers.
- The Roos won the rebounding battle with a plus-four margin (38-34).
