Three Point Barrage Not Enough as Roos Fall to UNCG
11/24/2023 12:50:00 PM | Men's Basketball
The Roos knocked down 12 threes, led by six from Cam Faas, but the Spartans shot 50% from the field
NASSAU, Bahamas - Kansas City Men's Basketball (2-3) was confident from behind the three-point line, knocking down a season-high 12 triples, but the Roos could not stop UNC Greensboro's (3-1) offense, falling in the first round of the Baha Mar Nassau Championship, 76-64. The Roos were 12-of-34 from three, good for a 35.3% clip, but allowed the Spartans to shoot 12-of-27 from long range, a 44.4% mark.
A Spartan run midway through the first half created distance between the two sides, as KC faced a double-digit halftime deficit for the third-straight game. The Roos showed fight in the second half, cutting into UNCG's lead and putting pressure on the Spartans, but did not have enough juice to complete the comeback and Greensboro moved on in the winner's bracket at the Nassau Championship.
Cameron Faas was the catalyst for KC's shooting success, going 6-of-7 from the field, all from beyond three-point range for a team-high 18 points. Jamar Brown and Anderson Kopp also hit two triples each, both going for 13 points. Brown also notched 10 rebounds, KC's first double-digit rebounding performance of the season.

KEY MOMENTS
- 1H - 14:52 / 11-10 | The Spartans jumped ahead in the early going, but five-straight points from Anderson Kopp put the Roos ahead by a point, the second and final time KC would hold the lead all game.
- 1H - 10:33 / 17-18 | UNCG extended its lead out to six points, but Kansas City fought back and cut the lead down to one thanks to a triple by Faas and a bucket in the lane from Melvyn Ebonkoli.
- 1H - 3:53 / 26-36 | After a 14-1 run by the Spartans gave them a 15-point lead, Kansas City cut back into the deficit with free throws from Artese Stapleton and Fass' fourth three of the half.
- 2H - 17:18 / 36-48 | The Roos' first six points of the half came from three-point range, first a bucket from Kopp, and then a three from Brown on the assist by Kopp.
- 2H - 12:11 / 46-55 | Kansas City's success from behind the arc continued as Brown pulled down an offensive rebound and kicked out to Faas, who found Khristion Courseault for a second-chance three-pointer that cut the deficit to single digits and sparked nine-straight points by the Roos.
- 2H - 7:55 / 54-58 | Brown pulled down another offensive board and went right back up with the put-back, cutting the deficit to four. Courseault would draw a charge on the next trip down the court, but after the media timeout the Spartans would put together an 11-point run and put the game out of reach.

- Faas' six three-pointers is the most by a Kansas City player since RayQuawndis Mitchell hit the same mark against Omaha on Dec. 31, 2022.
